If you design games you’re a game designer. If you have one of your designed games published you’re a published game designer. Making it more complicated is unnecessary gatekeeping. Could everyone design a game… yes! Would they all be good… No. Everyone could also review games, but that doesn’t mean they are good at it. So do what you want in the hobby. Enjoy yourself!

C) 3+ games for nostalgia that I may never play, but when folks ask about seeing them on the shelf, I can go on and on about some fond memory of that game

18:29 Happy to finally be able to contribute to the show!

As far as game designers are concerned, anyone call themselves one, but just like chefs & musicians, that doesn't necessarily mean they're good at it

Expansions for 2 games often want you to own both... which makes sense. Some aren't a big deal like King of Tokyo/New York monster packs or Undaunted Reinforcements. But expansions like Combopolis to combine Agropolis and Sprawlopolis are cool. I haven't seen that many expansions like this but liked the ones I've seen... which are always instances where I already own both base games.

A friend of mine was almost in the original X-Men movie... she passed on being in it. MISTAKE! lol She would have been a fairly important character that would have been in more movies in the series too. She said that it was the most security she ever saw with a script... a guy delivered the script to her in the morning from a briefcase and came and collected it later that afternoon. Each page also had her name watermarked across it... just in case she decided to copy it and share it or something.

Ambi: What does it matter if you would log a win or not? Why would you honestly log games with toddlers at all? I log games with my older kid, or when we play a game where my smaller kids join me, but I don't bother with every round of "Cars Yatzy" or "Animal upon Animal", I just don't see any point in that. I log my games to aid in culling and having actual data on whether I play games as much as I think (or want), but with the kids we play for the experience and social aspect.

I keep 2 (of about 60) games because of nostalgia. They are never played but maybe 1 day... when those friends wanna play an 8-year-old memory...

One of my favorite acronyms was for the League Of Super Evil, which was Voltar and his gang of inept super criminals.

Ambie - I’ve started playing competitive games with my toddler. I would t be able to log games for her. Half the time she gives other people extra turns and she never wants me to count scores. I guess she takes the saying ‘it doesn’t matter if you win or lose’ very seriously 😆

The thing is - being a great game designer is not enough. Your publisher has to get great art, cool components, good rule book, run an excellent marketing campaign etc. Having just a great design will not be enough to even get noticed.

I’ve never even considered trying to make Sprawlopolis or Agropolis harder, so I pretty much ignore those feed tokens.

I played a SUPER early version of Elizabeth Hargrave's mushroom game and it was really clever! I'm excited to see how it develops!

I dont care what anyone says, I love the whole X-Men movie series except for Logan and I loved the entire original Spiderman trilogy!! And just to continue my roll on hot takes, I loved Episodes 1-3 of Star Wars and would not have become a Star Wars fan without them 🙊

I think that farmers in Carcassonne should be out standing in their field. Not laying down.

Ambie, we rarely finish a game with my kids so I just mark them partially complete

We just played Carcassonne: H&G for the first time last week! We liked it. You don't need it, but its a good change of pace.

As a game designer, I'm guessing you play games and there are many games you don't like to play, so always expect people not to like your game. There is also games you love to play, so there may be people who love your game. You have to expect both.
