When i was at school my teacher gave me a comic book about Greek mythology that was very turned down and more suited for children, it still was pretty dark tho.

Thanks for this!

I’m was pleasantly surprised by two things - for one, you did not recommend Ovid (he was a excellent poet, but people who read his works conveniently forget that he had a specific mindset/agenda that unquestionably led to he way he portrayed some of the gods - a.k.a he wrote what you may call ‘fanfic’ because he had an axe to grind), and you also framed the Hymn to Demeter as *her* story. Most people see it as the H&P story, but really it’s about Demeter.

Amazing, not only you're telling the story of Greek mythology on your own style but also giving sources to where to find the "Real Deal". A strange thing to be seen, always that someone tells the story never says "And checkout Homer's Works btw".

you actually do very well when you're retelling the stories. I find it kind of difficult to find good channels for summarizing when I'm not in the mood fro reading about it but you do really well. In short you tell it in a fun but still mostly authentic way and you seem like a smart and cool person. keep up the good work!

Coming a little late but I've just found a book called Mythos by Stephen Fry, he simplifies important greek stories in the right timeline. Just started and I live it

Secondary sources like this channel are just easier. It’s a lot more work to comb through ancient literature or scholarly writings to get the same basic understanding.

Hey, Jake!
Maybe you could do a video on “Heracles”, Disney made a movie about them but I heard that most of what they told was false I did see a video on that and what really happened. Just an idea!
(Also, love your videos, man keep up the awesome work!)

There is an art form on the Balkans of memorising and singing stories long as the Iliad, and longer. I’ve only heard of man doing this (I wonder why) but the same way of mythologising a human hero has been kept till after the First World War. I’ll try and find a video of someone singing a story.

I really REALLY like your videos. You are so funny and you explain the mythology so easily. You make me understand it and I really hope you continue because you are really talented

I took a Greek mythology class in college and I had to read the metamorphoses by Ovid. It is interesting but the writing is not very linear. Ovid goes from one tale to the next without censorship and without a clear line between the stories. Still recommend you read or read the sparknotes version of the chapters
