Didn't people back then trained with wooden swords or just trained with dull swords but with armor? Sounds a lot more practical

Blunt sword = training weapon
Sharp sword = killing weapon

Don't mix up the two.

Its funny because the fencing foil, leather dussack, singlestick and federschwerter are all historical. Outside of those I know humanity has used wooden swords.

Thats the funny thing is you've made a great retrospective video before about how training gear has evolved and how that allows us to train much harder in modern times, and in the end allows us to become much better at arts than others in the past because of safety and accessibility. It's like why throw that great privilege away because of some complex? Always like to clarify I'm no practitioner but that seems like a privilege we need to respect, a commonperson can finally train in a safe and effective way after years of perfecting the art of safety and others walking so we could run.

I mean...not all parents were so loving. They might just give you the sword and tell you to defend.

If you lived far enough from people, there were no neighbors to stop it.

But to those who dont know: the point of training is not to sustain injuries and build pain tollerance. We call that a side effect, not our goal. Our goal is to teach ourselves how to move the weight and leverage of our metal sticks to hurt attackers and invaders. Ideally the quicker the death the better, for many reasons, ranging from legal, ethical, practical, and if youre a canibal, even nutritional.
