400 whp is much easier to hit if you turbo it, hks gtiii turbo kit and e85 as well as a full 3 inch exhaust is a very simple way to do so you will need to build the motor and trans at some point at that level however if you really want it to be reliable in the long term make sure you run catch cans and oil cooler if you aren’t already

400whp supercharged on stock motor may not even make it off the dyno. It is soo much more load in comparison to a 400hp turbo setup. If your going to make that much power on stock motor you need to make it all in the top end. I made 262kw on an incredibly hot australian day on 12psi. all my power is at the top of my powerband and my motor loves it. If you go turbo make sure to slightly oversize your turbo to help with that later spool and power delivery. I went with a g30 - 660.

i get my ignition coils for mine in september then going foir 450whp on e85 in the frs

in an auto brz pushing anywhere near 400 horsepower you're going to blow that transmission. if you want to make that power your best bet is to trade it for a manual. im sure there'll be someone out there who would go for that trade

How reliable is it to be at 400 hp? And what’s the total cost to go turbo to get to 400 hp?

I know the 86 chassis struggles in the mid range because of the torque dip, but can you not drive around it? You say struggling to get on the highway, well yeah if you drive right trhough the torque dip trying to get on the highway. Can any owner of the BRZ/86 chime in? I know the engine sucks in these cars but can you not just downshift and get around the torque dip? Is this a driver mod issue?

From my experience and a really good advice from a good tuner I would not supercharged it. It puts more stress on the engine and the supercharger is belt driven. I was really disappointed with the supercharger power. I would 1000% go with a turbo kit more realible more torque way more fun.
