For all the butthurt HF fanboys in the comments, I love the ratchet it’s great. I also like HF. My “opinion” was the packaging was little excessive but damn calm tf down 😂

That milk jug plastic cost them less than a cent. Its not making the tool more expensive. It is however, giving you a free custom molded tray for your toolbox to keep your tools organized. Use that cloth to wipe your tears then carry on.

Stop whining just buy the tool and be on your way.

It gives a premium look and feel to the tool being in such packaging.
Selling tools is the name of the game, and this likely helps them sell.

If you shop at Harbor Freight, you don't get to complain about the quality. If you do stumble upon something decent, then it's a bonus you act pleasantly surprised.

If there was no packaging he would complain about that too!😂

Some people do give a crap about the packaging. The ones who care about packaging are people who aren't necessarily mechanics, but are just normal people who want something that looks good, and for them it's about presentation.
I agree, it should just have a barcode and like a hook to put up on the shelf. First thing I did was pitch the box and rag; I bought it for the usage, not the packaging... plus the lifetime warranty. Mine came dry, had to lube it straight outta the box, felt terrible. Feels much better now, and it's one of my favorite ratchets, especially for the price.

There are a few target professions where blow-molded cases are an awfully large selling point. For instance, tool accountability could cost hundreds of lives in the aviation industry. When you have thousands of tools (sockets, bits, wrenches etc) there are only three ways to maintain easy visibility and accountability without having to manually count each and every tool 2-3 times a day or more. You have tool widgets, shadow foam, and packaging like this. This packaging is the cheapest way to do it. Icon is selling to professionals, just like the tool trucks, but at a lower price point. It’s a nice touch.

The cloth might come in handy, when your trying to clean the tears from your glasses, after realizing the wasted money on packaging?

"marketing" my friend. Same way people shop for food. They eat with their eyes first even if the food is shit they'll buy it because it "looks good"

Well they sell cheap ratchets if thats what you want but the Pittsburgh this is supposed to be a premium product so the package is part of that

Bro that packaging cost like 25 cents to make. Some people may actually use the trays for storage. Is the packaging really so much of an inconvenience that you actually made a video over it? People are hyper sensitive these days jeez

You might not but a lot of people care about the packaging especially if you’re going to use the insert in your drawer

This is my daily ratchet. And it is still in the original box that I got it with. It helps me organize the drawer.
