It is cheaper for Long Term Care Homes to hire PSW's as casual workers and not pay for benefits, vacation time, sick benefits, etc. Casual workers are limited to 2 to 3 shifts per week at one institution so must work at several institutions to make a living paycheck. One solution would be a requirement for LTC homes to hire more Full Time employees.

Anyone who cant staying home to stay safe because they don’t qualify for the CERB or EI and don’t have the financial support by the government need to get payed more. What is the Incentive for cashiers or anyone at high risk jobs to work and get payed their regular salary while others stay home.

The last place you want to end up in is a "retirement home".COVID -19 has shown us that. Some of these retirement homes are like fleabag hotels. Some employ mostly part-time personnel so they pay less for staffing, most staff are poorly paid with lousy benefits. This goes for special care facilities also. That staff works at other retirement homes so they are more likely to spread diseases. No air conditioning, probably over 38 degrees celsius in these facilities. You could die from heatstroke. Imagine being sick and stuck in a room that is 38 degrees. In many cases some of the elderly are very weak, so exposure to something like COVID -19 means you die.
