Somatic Tinnitus

Somatic tinnitus is a phenomenon caused by the convergence of auditory(hearing) nerve fibers and Sensory nerve fibers that is associated with an amplification of signals. In this patient with tinnitus from high frequency hearing loss, tinnitus is changed in tone and loudness when he touches the top of his head. The convergence of sensory fibers from his scalp with auditory fibers from the cochlea occurs at the dorsal cochlear nucleus and causes a change in ascending signals to the cortex. Somatic tinnitus can be associated with sensory input from any branch of the trigeminal nerve.

Patients with migraine have fluctuating levels of trigeminal nerve activity that can cause changes in tinnitus by various mechanisms. Changes in somatic tinnitus is one.

A few times a week I get this very sudden onset of a 3 second pressure in my ears, completely out of the blue, it feels scary like I’m about to have total hearing loss and then it’s immediately followed by a 3-6 second ringing.

I have somatic tinnitus and tinnitus gets louder with opening mouth and turning my head side to side and just even slightly tilting head back.When i walk as well the sound gets louder.My sound goes like hiss hiss was diagnosed with somatic pulsate tinnitus.somatic tinnitus can get louder with movements or pressure.Had mine 4 years and its very difficult condition to live with as its loud and constantly exhausting.

I also have this feeling of water stuck in my ears( like after being in the pool). I have Vestibular Migraine and on Nortryptaline . Comes and goes. Have tried all sorts of maneuvers, but have to wait for it to go away. Any suggestions.

Empty Nose Syndrome has cause suicides. I tried to tell ppl instead of messing w turbinates to consider their stuffy nose is from a migraine.

I can start tinnitus buy pushing my head. Is that not normal?
