Pikat villain arc: reverse psychology!

As one who almost obsessively avoids references, I can confirm that it is a really good way for your art skills to remain stagnant.

Before watching this I was a 13 year old art prodigy who loved the process of drawing and learning new things. Now I’m a 41 year old who can’t pick up a pencil and hasn’t drawn since. Thank you for the super helpful tutorial.

(In all honesty great video and I think this different perspective is actually pretty helpful)

dont draw from reference because you may end up with 50 pintrest boards with 700+ pins each that you will never use

this no joke helped me get more motivated than any regular "how to improve art" has. Reverse psychology and sarcasm are powerful things

You know what, I think that Pikat has really fallen off, so I'm NOT going to follow this tutorial, I'm going to get BETTER at art! In your face Pikat

I keep telling my dear friend, if you keep drawing the same thing every day without learning something new, you won’t improve, they’ve never listened and after a year, they haven’t improved and their upset.

I love that poorly drawn naruto image and how hard its spreading through the art community. The person who popularized it/created the entire meme around it, Marcel from Drawing like a sir, originally started out as a purely german youtube art teacher and i've been following him for a long time. It makes me so happy to see how successful he is and his impact on the art community, now that he's also uploading all of his videos in english.

well well well
if it isn't the incarnation of my bad habit in video format.
that compiles a lot of what I already diagnosticed about my last burnout/fear of creating.

funny how that work.

One of the worst things for me was listening to critique videos by pros, I hate to say it, but it turns into a little voice in the back of my head that isn't helping me improve my technique but instead is making me anticipate negative feedback on anything that is less than professional level. I'm not saying new artists should be coddled, but there is so much negativity out there. Art often feels like one of the only hobbies where you're not allowed to be a beginner/novice without being looked down on. In a weight room people are very supportive of other's progress no matter where they are on the rungs of strength, musicians are always supportive of those who are just learning their instruments, but with art there is so much snark.

In all honesty, though, this has helped me figure out these kinds of art tips that I couldn't wrap my head around for a long time. So thank you.

i love these reversed not to do vidoes. babish started doing them and its helped so much. being told the correct way vs being shown examples of mistakes and why their inherently bad makes a very big difference in learning. for me anyways.

i kinda already knew all of this tho lol but it was nice hearing a funny video from you while i draw

Low key i appreciate the imperfect practice point. Helped me realize a lot of my failed sketches weren't a waste of time since I still learned something from it

Evil pikat be like:
You should draw EVERYTHING on a single layer and never make a new one. Can't have you developing good and convenient habits.

I have “quit” art for almost a year now but I’ve still been subscribed for this channel for some reason lol finally decided to watch a video and maybe it’s time I buy a cheap drawing tablet and give digital art a new start
