the fact that her mom got the miss jackson plate is really touching, like she was proud of how he handled the situation, with maturity and grace

“And yes, I will be present on the first day of school… And graduation!” This explains this line in the song.

In 2000, I saw OutKast perform in Dallas, where Queen Eryka lives, and she came out on stage and sang on this song. Amazing concert moment and proof of their maturity and commitment

It is actually crazy how apologizing and taking accountability can improve situations so drastically and yet most people just simply won’t do it

Andre writing a song about it tells how terribly sorry he felt. Her mom getting a license plate saying MS JACKSON is the ultimate act of forgiveness ❤️

I'm a metal head and can't get over how talented Andre is. The rhytms, it's math, the lyrics their poetry, performance and energy. He's a different human.

Not only is it a great song (released Nov 2000), it's also a very heartfelt & real apology. Hats off for them still being friends & co-parenting their son.

The photo of them says everything.
Their smiles are so genuine, and the son looks happy, which is the important part.

I never understood that song until I was older. It is so sad, especially if you’ve gone through that kind of a break up. Not an ugly one, but a necessary one. It hurts even more when you don’t hate each other.

I knew most of this, but I didn't know that Erkyah and Andre are 1. still friends, and 2. that she liked his verse that much. Very cool to know! Thank you, Xevi! (we all say in unison)

I wrote and recorded a song about my mom passing. I featured a friend of mine who sings and added an amazing touch to the song. One day he played the song for his mom while they were out running errands together. He called me later and told me how she had to pull over cause the song brought her to tears. We recorded that song back in 2011. Til this day, she loves that song. I call the song Mother's Day cause I wrote it on Mother's day.

You did an awesome job of explaining the backstory to this amazing song. I love that you included Erykah's reaction to it too. I'm sure hearing Andre on that track helped heal something in her heart. All legends!

"Y'all don't want to hear me, you just wanna dance" hits like a sledgehammer against all their tracks. They're just so overflowing with stories and meaning, if you just take a sec to listen.

Ironic how my first introduction to Outkast was on the TV jukebox that played when I was like 7, at 5am (when the sun was up, it wasy daytime, was how my head worked at the time), was in fact Hey Ya 😂

This was so touching. I love how poetic Andre is and him saying “you can plan a pretty picnic but you can’t predict the weather” is so true and shows no matter how good of intentions sometimes relationships must come to an end 😢❤

Some people still love each other… knowing that they can’t be together anymore ❤❤❤❤❤

Outkast are one of the greatest groups in hip hop history. So much depth to the lyrics and music it’s insane. When Andre famously said ‘the south got something to say’ he meant that 🔥

That's a sad story with a good ending. That was actually really sweet
