Tinea Capitis (also known as Ringworm of the scalp, or Scalp ringworm) is a fungal skin infection of the scalp of the head caused by fungi known as dermatophytes. In this lesson, we discuss these dermatophytes, along with risk factors for infection, signs and symptoms (ex. hair loss), a variation of clinical presentations (including Favus, or “Tinea Favosa”, and Kerions), how Tinea capitis is diagnosed and how a fungal infection on the scalp is treated.

I’ve suffered from a continuous yeast infection on my scalp (due to diabetes and high blood sugar) for more than 6 years. Ive dealt with constant lesions that ooze and bleed and are SO painful, scabs, flakes, and bald spots that are embarrassing and disgusting. I’ve gone to my doctor and a dermatologist, I’ve spent hundreds on special shampoos, ointments, oils, supplements and creams, both prescription and over the counter. I’ve tried countless home remedies and even tried killing it by putting bleach on my scalp. I’d pretty much resigned myself to the thought that I was going to have this horrible infection on my head forever until I came across this video. I went to a different doctor and asked for Griseofulvin and I’ve been taking it for about 3 weeks and my scalp is finally clearing up and healing!!! Thank you so much, you have quite literally changed my life!

Tinea Capitis disease is one of the worst things that has happened to me in my entire life. The head itches so bad all day and it hurts, the hair falls out. My daughter was in first grade of school when she got ringworm of the scalp, we saw many dermatologists there was a misdiagnosis because they told her it was psoriasis when it was not and as a result everyone in my home was infected including me. Thank God we finally have the correct treatment, but if you or someone in your family is in this situation, BE VERY CAREFUL, ringworm grows and worsens if it is not treated.

I've been battling mine for a year. I almost kicked its ass but then I fell asleep and it came back stronger. I'm going to schedule an appointment for the oral medication.

I had been suspecting other causes but what you have just explained in detail just summs what I had been suffering from. I will show this to my physician to have him prescribe me one of the oral medicines you listed. I am leaving in the Tropics and fungus is here to stay. God Bless You and or your Team of Specialists.

In some remote villages in Mexico people would treat this by shaving the head then applying a cocktail of lemon juice by lemons picked right at dawn, then squeezed into a container that had other herbs like rosemary and other stuff I couldn't identify, but before it was applied a warm wet towel was placed on scalp then the mixture was applied sat for a few minutes after they would use a home made oil with other herbs but apparently it worked for several people dating back many decades.
I mean I would definitely see a doctor but when none is available I guess you would try anything too.

I had this fungal infection on my scalp when I was 9 years old, when it was found it was too late . After it had been treated, my hair became thick and long, but my hair was thicker before the infection. The infection returned when I became 14 years old. My eyebrows started falling out. They became too much to hide so, I used to disguise my eyebrows using an eyebrow pencil .After using aloe vera, my eyebrows got better. After some years, I got the infection on my scalp currently undergoing treatment.

I have had an overgrowth of candida for over 35 years, when I eat too much sugar like in candy or maybe a donut which has yeast in it, the sugar makes the yeast grown, which for me causes itchy skin. Well I had itchy skin on my groin area and on my hands, my hands were so itchy for years, that ended, but some times my scalp itches really bad, it's no psoriasis, and now I have what looks to be small crusty and blood that dries on a few of these very small patches on my head. Yes I'm to the doctor, I am pre-diabetic and have been since 2003. I'll be seeing a dermatologist this month. The itching sees like it's my bottom half o my scalp. Maybe there are 2 things going on. I eat too much red licorice every day, I know that. The over growth of candida was something in the 80's that my doctors didn't believe. And I can use a products that kills the candida fungal infection by drinking a product served hot or called named Cali, it's Chinese herbs and is the only thing I found that settles down the itching. There is also a big area that always has dried blood and never heals. And 11 years ago, I had 2 very small match head areas at the bottom of my scalp that a dermatologist removed both with freezing, they said it could turn into cancer. So probably 2 things going on. Don't have my mother's medical history, but diabetes is on mothers and fathers side.

Thank you for this. I am battling fungus in my scalp. Not sure if it came from the hairdresser or it was spores from feet, which are usually dressed but dressings were removed for consultation. All I know is that I am terrified and all I want is to cure the fungus on my scalp. I would swallow anything. Currently taking Itraconazole and still waiting on the shampoo.

I think I have Tinea Capitis. I used to think it was either dry scalp or dandruff. So I put olive oil on my scalp thinking the dryness will go away. But it looks like scale and pus like thing is increasing and my scalp is getting more itchy, I think the fungus started to feed on the olive oil and grow more. I'll consider taking Griseofulvin.
