Imma gonna give you a like for that. You have enthusiasm for sure.

I'm a long time Slackware user, probably since before you were born but I feel the same way about Slackware as you do. It is da bomb!

I use it on all my machines and if you make the mistake of leaving your machine with me, I'll install it on that, too!

Everybody should use Slackware!!

Ubuntu is not a rolling release. They have versioned releases. Rolling release does not mean frequent updates on a given time frame. A rolling release is a non versioned released where software packages are constantly updated ( daily ) such as in Arch or Manjaro. SuSe also has a rolling release option.

Is unbelievable that during these times I have become so interested in Linux, C language, BASIC, and color graphic calculators. So good to find people who like the same and made recent videos. Anyway... awesome work you did. thumbs up.

It's 2 AM, and this little guy just revitalized the caffeination in my coffee. I Subscribed and will be looking to learn a few things from him.

You can edit your .xinitrc file and add/edit the line "exec so that 'startx' will boot your WM / DE of choice. All other distro's allow you to change your WM / DE. It may require some editing of config files. You can also change your default rc 'run level' so that you boot your system into X rather than console.

for those of you whom may have gone through the installation process sucessfully and have not found out how to initiate the graphical user interface this is how. Once your computer is started, enter the root username (root) and the password you have created during installation (PasswordYouHaveChosen). You will be left at the terminal interface, similar to DOS for those of you whom have opened up DOS on windows but different. First things first, you want to create another username for your personal everyday use that does not have administrator privileges (or root privileges in the linux world). Just type in "adduser" without the quotes and type in your chosen information. You can simply hit enter to skip any of the fields you don't want to enter. Once your username is created you now have two users on your new slackware system, the root user and your privileged user account. it's been awhile since i have used slackware so bear with me. You now type "logout" or "exit" i forget which. When typing "exit" into a "windowed" terminal while in the graphical mode, it will close the terminal windows. You bascially want to be at the prompt where the system asks for your username and password and I think it's "logout". The rest is adding your new username and yoru new password and hitting enter. You will be at the terminal interface again - still. the magic command to start the GUI (Graphical User Interface) is "startx" - without quotes as goes for the above commands as well. I could teach you more but i learned by tinkering around with slackware myself and it's pretty neat to be able to use something different and get used to it while your bored especially if you have a spare PC laying around and slackware does run on older systems. KDE interface, if you recall during setup, was an option you could choose from a list of GUI's to use on slackware. It's the best and most "resource-intensive" yet it's not a hog on resources. I'd suggest giving it a try first if your new to slackware linux. so yeah, just type in "startx" and your in a graphicl mouse point and click type of atmosphere. In the event you use KDE for a half hour or so and you think your system is not good enough to handle it, go back and reinstall slackware and choose a different GUI rather than KDE. It may seem like a bitch, but you will surely get used to the installer and that's good because the slackware installer has not changed much since slackware v3.x (that was the one I first used back on an old Pentium 1 machine years ago). Some advice... if your new to linux but enjoying nerding out here and there and if you only have an old system, KDE and GNOME graphical interfaces are two of the most demanding. Several other are "lightweight" but do offer pretty much everything you need - clicking on folders, saving files easily, browsing the system, etc. lxde, if memory serves, is one of the lightweight ones that can run easily on older but still CRYING TO BE USEFUL systems out there - and again, it's been awhile since I have used lxde as well so like i said, I'd try out KDE first and if it's laggy, go through the install process (just to become familiar with the installer - it's really quite straight forward. I use the "fdisk /dev/sda" and not "fdisk /dev/hda" ... an older computer with an old parallel ribbon data cable uses the /hda. the still older /sda is for the SATA hard disks that are used now-days. Yeah, there are a few basics to learn, but once you do, Slackware can be a great operating system to choose from. as an alternative, you may want to try using linux mint with the cinnamon graphical interface. It's pretty similar to the old Windows xp/vista, 7, style and a weekend spend on the cinnamon desktop, you'll be good to go. So yeah, I'm particular to Slackware but not a genius at it either - however if you have an old laptop you took the time to max out the memory it can handel and popped in a new or used but good hard disk (a 7200 RPM HDD makes things noticablly faster and these days, you can pick up an SSD that 128GB for a pretty good price) into it and want to use something new and not too complicated, i like to tell people to go with linux mint with the cinnamon graphical user interface.

* Problem with privilege escalation.

Tip: Create a regular user after installing Slackware.

Nice to see Slackware videos...not enough of them.

If you use xwmconfig command it will list the DE/WM's . Choose one then just use startx . Then startx will launch that one until you change it.

Did you do a full install? If so you have Fluxbox, WindowMaker, and others out of the box.
I'm running Slackware Current and it too is very stable.
Like Vivaldi browser ? Search for latest-vivaldi.sh ; it will fetch the latest Vivaldi .Deb package and automatically convert to .txz
Then just install it.
You're right, Slackware is awesome.
