Let me give you some context before the haters come

This movie is the costliest movie from india, its inspired and loosely based on Hinduism ( sanatana dharma )
To watch this movie you should have some knowledge from Mahabharata scripture at the very least
I watched this movie in theatres and loved it
But critically speaking there's a lot of things to improve, hope they improve it in the sequal
It has some flaws but overall an amazing and unique movie from india .
The vfx and costumes were beautiful and world building was also amazing 😍

it blends the knowledge from hindu scriptures into movie very well without being disrespectful

You can watch it but it will be hard to understand the refrence to the epic Mahabharata.
The Mahabharata is an ancient Indian epic where the main story revolves around two branches of a family - the Pandavas and Kauravas - who, in the Kurukshetra War, battle for the throne of Hastinapura.
Story of Good vs Evil. It has 100s of characters and the lord Krishna is in it.
The first half of the movie is slow but second half is enjoyable. Even though its not a perfect movie but enjole if you knew the context to the epic.
Their are characters from that epic in this movie. Like the old guy in the trailer. He is Ashwatthama, an immortal cursed by Lord Krishna to live forever because of his crimes during the war.
And Kalki is the 10th and the last Avatar of Vishnu.
So, according to some beliefs KALKI the final Avatar of Lord Vishnu is prophesied to appear at the end of Kali Yuga, the current age, when the world is ruled by the unjust and virtue and dharma have disappeared. Kalki will destroy the wicked and usher in a new age of purity, truth, and righteousness, called Satya Yuga.

So, the Director Nag Ashwin had the idea that what if Ashawatthama is still alive and he is watching all these things throughout the history and waiting for the Kalki Avatar so that he can redeem himself.
Ashwatthama was cursed because he attacked an unborn child. So here in this story/movie, he is given the task to protect an unborn child( The Kalki Avatar).

This movie kalki 2898-AD is a blend of futuristic dystopian sci-fi & History of ancient India, with the storyline of kalki, the tenth and final incarnation of Hindu god Lord Vishnu. This is based on kalki puranam, mahabharatham & vishnu puranam...

The basic plot was based on Kalki the 10th avatar of vishnu will be born in kali yuga, the final of the 4 yugas, Krita, tretha, dwapara and kali the rivers will be dried up and there will be no food and water available for people, when the evil forces will be ruling, when the whole dharma will be out of the actual path, the 10th avatar kalki will be come and destroy the evil forces and re-establish the tall guy with white beard and 10 feet hight was Ashwatthama, one of the warrior of kauravas who participated in epic war KURUKSHETRA....he is having a curse given by Sri krishna one of the avatar of lord vishnu. The curse was Ashwatthama was then made to surrender the gem on his forehead and cursed by Krishna that he would roam in the forests for 3000 years with blood and pus oozing out of his injuries, and with no one to talk to. Ashwatthama then went to the forest never to be seen again.

In the Mahabharata, Ashwatthama was cursed by Lord Krishna to live forever with a gaping wound on his forehead and to wander the Earth in a state of perpetual suffering and loneliness:

The curse:

Krishna removed a gem from Ashwatthama's forehead, stripping him of his powers and cursing him to wander the Earth for 3, 000 years. The curse also ensured that blood would forever flow from the place where the gem was, and that he would be affected by all kinds of diseases.

The cause:

Ashwatthama was cursed for his attempt to kill Uttara's unborn child. Ashwatthama, out of anger, refused to recall the Brahmastra and directed it to Uttara's womb. Krishna intervened and saved the child.

Ashwatthama's character:

Ashwatthama was a Maharathi who fought on the side of the Kauravas against the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra War. He was known for his inhuman and cruel warrior skills.

Some people believe that Ashwatthama is still alive and have reported sightings of him in remote regions of the Himalayas.

Well, this will take a long explanation to explain. DUNE movie VFX company is DNEG and KALKI 2898 AD movie VFX company is also DNEG alongside other 5 VFX company . That's why this movie has dune vibe.

The actor playing mummy like character is "AMITABH BACHCHAN" the master. The mummy like character name is "ASHAWATHAMA" who was cursed to live alive painfully by "LORD KRISHNA"( 8th avatar of "LORD VISHNU" one of the supreme Trinity in HINDUISM "SANATAN DHARMA") in the epic battle of " THE MAHABHARAT".

This movie is related to "HINDUISM" with sci fi concept and have to know about "THE MAHABHARAT" an ancient Hindu epic .

"KALKI" is the last 10th avatar ( incarnation ) of "LORD VISHNU", who will take avatar to restore DHARMA ( righteousness) by abolishing ADHARMA ( unrighteousness) and usher to "SATYA YUGA" ( first era, era of truth) and restart the cycle of 4 eras.

There are four yuga(era) according to Hinduism named as Satyug, treta yug, daupar yug and kalyug (and it continues in cycle) Actually it is based on 10th avatar of lord Vishnu who will be called as lord kalki and which will lead to the end of the yuga(era) and we are in that kalyuga and when the sins will be at the peak lord kalki would come end the kalyuga and set satyuga
This movie is also linked with Indian history of Mahabharata(ancient book of Hindu religion).
So as to enjoy the actual essence of the movie a broad knowledge about Mahabharata is required.
And the mummy guy is actually from daupar yug ie different era with mystical powers and a curse of immortality by lord vishnu's 8th avatar(lord Krishna)

this movie was a blockbuster and this is based on Hinduism Mythology and the name KALKI is main character of this movie he is an Avtar of God who saves the world but this is only part 1 so KALKI Avtar will show up in the next one
