FYI for those who were wondering, the way to tell if a squid has died or not is if the color of the squid turns grayish-white, the color pigments are functioned by nerves in the squid, so when they die those nerves no longer function, and drains the color out of the squid

Edit: A specific tool is not needed, you can always use something like a paring knife

Ikejime method doesn't seem to work with squids. You could literally just karate chop him where you last stabbed it and it would've instantly died.

I have caught squid many times and I find the best way to dispatch said squid is to lay it flat, and deliver a single swift 'karate chop' between the head and the hood. Far quicker, no stabbing etc. It's instant.
