In all honesty I've seen my Grandpa skin and gut catfish while they were still alive..so putting them out the quickest way possible b4 u do anything is more humane..some ppl dont care at all

Unfortunately just this step is the same as hitting the fish in the head with a bat
Or worse because you scrambled the brain and head meat.

Spike the fish in the brain in one clean motion
Two if you haven’t done it before
After the fish is brain dead
You cut the gills and tail artery so it bleeds out
(The heart keeps pumping)
This prevents blood from deteriorating the flesh

Than through the tail you insert a wire to destroy the spinal cord
This prevents the muscles from developing lactic acid

Bruh the people who disliked. This was the most humane way possible to dispatch this fish. The fish you get from a super market, are caught in huge nets, then eventually just get suffocated. In this the fish hardly have a chance to feel pain. Like bruh

I used a Ruger airgun. Fraction of second fish went to sleep without this much suffering.

It's actually way more humane to hit it with a hammer right where the brain is located. The method you used causes searing pain to the fish for about 2 seconds.

Someone else did the same thing but mentioned to poke the wire towards the tail. I’m about ready to check my first catfish I caught this morning. Fingers crossed!

People hunt for food and people fish for food, it’s a basic necessity, also in my area catfish are super invasive so you can’t throw them back

Just tried this. By far the easiest way to immobilize the fish. I hate trying to fight with them while doing decapitation. This is how I will do it from now on. Does this work on all fish?
