Adam thanks for sharing your experiences. Inexperienced people think it as easy as listening to someone and making money. I had a machine shop and people thought they could do the same thing I did. I said sure you can buy the equipment, have the skills, higher the accountants to do the paperwork –Now just get the customer. That’s where they fell flat on their faces.

You're better off working at the grocery store, honestly. I'd hate to burst people's bubbles but yeah the commercial studio business has been on the decline for over a decade now and shows no signs of getting any better. Check the vid description for a PDF.

Like I said in the video the vast majority of my own studio gear was not purchased through money I made recording/mixing audio. Video/photography/teaching are my main sources of income but I LOVE audio and have since I was a little kid.

Sounds great, you gotta work with what you got.I bought this book Gurilla HomeRecording and its has some real good advice, as to getting clients i just talk to local musicans and try to work with them and try to benefit the both, because i myself am like you said a musician that has a studio and goes to gigs an meet people. I have to say though with working at a grocery store and playing in a band or whatever, i find it hard to find time to even record people.

Great video - thanks for sharing! My studio isn't big enough to record bands - thank God! - so I 'advertise' for singer/songwriters, solo artists, acoustic duos etc, by attending local open mic/show cases, and sometimes offering a free 1hr recording if they initially book for an hour. I also let them know that I can 'embellish' an original recording by adding extra sounds (drums, keys, sfx), which they love. My Lonely Island instrumentals were the most viewed on Youtube until someone took one of the tracks I remade and started making money from it, which resulted in me removing them all. However I still have the original DAW files and use them as references to my attention to detail, which has resulted in several bookings. As a producer you CAN make money in music, but it requires a lot of hard work and the ability to deliver what you've promised.

Its been pretty much known now, nobody is going to make money anymore doing this lol.let alone make it in the music bizz, the world got filled with fakes, who think they can make good music, and the real musicians are left for dead now, if you look at this be negitive, than i have news for you!, ITS THE FU*KING TRUTH LOL!!!.And you'll find out that truth soon enough LOL.I make music, and love the fact i can do it all by myself, so thats all you need now, in some ways they made us feel like we have to be something more than we are, to get anywhere in life, and thats just not the truth, Music is its own reward for you, or others, you eather like it, or you dont, end of story!.
