Winter proof your mountain bike to protect it from the worst of the elements. Why? Because you still want to ride your bike this winter, right?

That said, there are still plenty of measures that you can take to keep your bike running smoothly. Full outer cables, keeping your bike clean, choosing the right tyres and throwing on a mudguard will all help.

The winter you describe there is called "Summer" here in Scandinavia, where we have rain & mud and around 15 C during the warmer season....

Love this new upload schedule.
Get home from working with bikes all day, to GMBN videos.

Good point on the tires.
My Rocket Rons were constantly spinning and sliding in the mud the other day.

Cheers for the top tips. Sadly shan't be using mine much this winter after a bike related injury. One winter rule I usually go by is, wash the worst of the crud off after any winter ride (or next morning if it's a night ride). That way it's not sat rusting or stinking in filth. Plus it's always ready as soon as you are for your next ride.

Please make a video on servicing pivots! It's a somewhat intimidating thought for the novice mechanic, but it's something I really need to learn!

I have a suggestion for upcoming videos. Would be nice if you guys did a video about filming and/or edititing an mtb edit. Great show though!

A How To video on regreasing your rear parts would be nice. Stud tire is a good tip for winter, like Ice Spiker Pro.

I find mud guards the best tip - especially to protect the rear shock from mud-bomardment. I bought something like a
3-buck plastic bucket made out of a thin plastic and carved a mud guard that fits my rear end - sorry - the rear end of my bike ...
works perfectly, goes nowhere with a few zip ties and protects pivots and shock

Maybe you could do video on how to service the frame and pivot bearings.

I live in QLD Australia and it is like 30 degrees celcius in the winter with no rain!

put your full sus away for the winter, then get out the old hard tail, it'll make you a better rider as well as saving all those pricey components from being destroyed

You could borrow a tip from the roadies and have a winter bike. I have a rigid steel singlespeed that gets lots of use during the winter. Cheap to maintain, no pivots or sliders to worry about. Just clean and lube the chain and it's GTG!

Preparing my bikes for winter: Showing it in the garage and wait for the 500m snow wall to disappear ;). And for the commuter one, studded tires and hope that the snowplow does it's job.

Can we see a "how to" on maintaining suspension linkages and bearings, especially those on carbon frames?
Thanks

Mud tire...sounds like English winter ;D I would suggest studs or spikes for real winter

I've ridden with a few aggressive knobs.
