I worked in a Calif prison for almost 30 years & now retired. Most ( not all ) of the inmates I spoke with said that yappi dogs that are kept inside at night are a strong deterrent. If outside regardless of size can be dealt with. Inside they can’t be reached/touched and therefore usually wake the home owner.

A big dog is one of the oldest, most tried and true home security systems. Locks on doors and windows. And a weapon of your choice.

With a bunch of dogs in the house do you really need SimpleSafe?

Having your home security system connected to wifi and the internet creates a whole different set of security and privacy risks

We have over 3 acres and there are a lot of trees. I was getting beat up by the lower branches, and it was taking forever to cut the lawn. I slowly cut and chipped the lower branches up about 8’. It made it so much easier to cut the lawn, and the lawn looked great. Then we got rid of the ugly huge massive shrubs by the house, put up stone walls and planted flowers, and small shrubs. Then I replaced the outside lights with flood lights. What started out just trying to make it easier to cut the lawn turned into a great security improvement, and it looks great. I can see the whole property and house at night easily now. You know you hear something strange outside at night, and go to check it out.

In parking lots criminals will just walk and pull on door handles until one opens. They do the same for houses. They will generally choose the path of least resistance.

Baby stair gates, unless the criminal had had a child and actually spends time with one would find trying to open the things is a deterrent in its own!!

Most Americans can't afford alarms systems so us smart ones improvise. I booby trap my house so their screams will wake me up if I don't hear them busting in

I had a "lovely" river stone by the sliding glass door. Guess what took out the glass door and let thieves inside? As an extra precaution during these times I have removed any heavy decorations that can be thrown at me or the house. I'm surprised how many items have accumulated.

I don't understand why people don't use their porch light's, I have been turning ours on for the last 23 year's, we've never have had issues but our neighbors, have those who have had issues, they now use their porch light's. Have motion detectors in driveways, or side yards, or your backyard.

In southern Nevada where I live, gun ownership is common, non-essential businesses are closed currently and most households are in self-quarantine. And crime is down 30% locally. I am guessing that the local criminals are reluctant to break into a home that is likely to be occupied by multiple unemployed adults.

We live in the "country" and we have had more than once people knocking on our door to see if we are home. They had a non credible reason when we answered. We also have Simply Safe. It's a great product and easy to install...

The best security; is being self aware. Don't rely on the police right away. They don't live nextdoor.
