Sheep Farming: Sleepy Day On The Farm

Today at Ewetopia Farms, we had a sleepy sort of day. We are between lambings right now, everyone is doing well, so it is all about maintaining the status quo in the flock and just making sure all the sheep are fed, kept clean, and looking healthy until lambing starts up again in a few weeks. So this gives us more time to spend watching the lambs and getting caught up on things around the farm such as burning branches from our last wind storm, setting up rat traps, and taking caught rodents off-farm all of which we did today. Hope you will still enjoy this more quiet time with us.

Sheep and sheep farming is our passion and we hope that the love we have for what we do is obvious to you the viewers. Our operation is a large scale, registered Suffolk and Poll Dorset sheep farm combining the best of pasture and confinement to manage the flock for maximum comfort, minimal stress, and producing a consistent, very high quality product. Our focus is on providing breeding stock for sale to other sheep producers. All our sheep are treated with the utmost compassion which I think will become evident as you join us on our daily rounds on our working sheep farm in eastern Ontario, Canada.

I hope you enjoy this video. If you would like to follow along with us and experience life on a real live sheep farm on a daily basis, please subscribe do that you don't miss a single episode! It doesn't cost anything to do so and you can cancel at any time. I think some people think that subscribing costs or locks you into something. All it does is notify you when I post a new video. I felt it may be helpful to clarify that because from talking with people in person, I don't think a lot of people realize that about pushing the subscribe button. Thank you for taking the time to watch! We love to hear from you so be sure to leave a comment as well.

Thank you!

Good morning Arnie and Lynn. What a great day on the farm. The lambs had so much fun climbing the little mountains. It is so very nice that you guys provide stimulus for your sheep. They stay so happy. Chewy gets a star this year for her beautiful lamb and her mothering capability. I like the live traps and release. Your shepherd’s pie looked delicious and I bet Arnie loved it. Big hugs to you both. 🥰🥰🥰

That's what i would do too, live catch wildlife, we get alot of skunks around where i live, i love skunks, they are a big ferret more or less, that is awesome of you and Arnie, giving the raccoon and rat a chance. Thanks

Watching from a very stormy early morning in middle Georgia. Having my coffee with Lynn and family is a great way to start my day. Maybe lots more peanut butter 🤷‍♀️ in the new bucket thingy. 😂💜

Was that a big raccoon?
The sheep at 14:30 doing contortion acts to feed from the manger was a hoot. Whatever it was after must have been really good!
Been looking at the lambs and it occurred to me that 50+ years ago I was catching/holding these for tailing, tagging, castrating, vaccinating. I guess they were three months old at least. It was better when we used portable yards in the paddock. Much healthier all round and less stress. Must have been strong then. Hated the lambs with stubby horns when they threw their heads. At 5’2” I was not tall enough to avoid them!

I love your lambs they are full of fun and mischief they really enjoy their morning exercise, stinky is a real character she looks to be a good solid type once you get past the mucky neck. Loving your videos they are very enjoyable

Your dinner looks delicious!! I'm sure Arnie was grateful when he returned from his re-homing trip. I agree with you removing the pests and it would be easier to just kill the pests, but like us those pests are just trying to survive and you can't blame them for loving your barns.😂 I'm sure both will do just fine out in a more natural environment. Thanks for sharing and stay safe!!

Hello Lynn and Arnie! I was wondering if the ewe that was feeding all the lambs was still doing that? I was also wondering if you used the paint on a raccoon or rat you let go to see if it found it’s way back? Thanks for your time.😊

Very enjoyable video. Do they make a larger bucket trap? Also smear peanut butter on the ladder and top of the bucket for a few days, just a small amount, until they are cleaning it up consistently. Then put it on the trap as well as inside the bucket. Once they get used to the peanut butter you will likely catch several. Good luck!
