How did Obi-Wan Kenobi Get A Seat On The Jedi Council?

The first Battle of Geonosis claimed the lives of more than 180 Jedi Knights. Jedi Master Coleman Trebor, a member of the Jedi High Council, was one of these casualties. The Jedi Council temporarily rotated several Masters into Trebor's Council position as the Order adjusted to these losses and to fighting a war for the first time in a millennium.

Not long after the events on Geonosis, Anakin Skywalker was promoted from Padawan to Jedi Knight, making Obi-Wan a Jedi Master. Kenobi was then selected to permanently fill Trebor’s seat. The novel Brotherhood reveals that Obi-Wan had doubts regarding his abilities and felt insecure about his place on the Council. However, he grew into this position during the Clone Wars, becoming a valued member of the Council in the final days of the Republic.

Kenobi, as a padawan, went through a "trial" that tested him in a way that no Jedi experienced, by encountering and defeating a Sith Lord. Yoda trained Jedi for 800 years, he had not encountered a Sith.
