Why people think traditional martial arts is bad?! It's the ancestor of all modern fighting.
I learned Choy Li Fut for 3 years

The person presenting this mockingly says he doesn’t like blocks from traditional martial arts. Then the parry and block be demonstrates are actually variants of the karate outside block “Soto uke”

Wow! That is really the best technique, I have ever seen. Now I realize that I have been getting it wrong. Thanks.

My new coach introduced me to catching when before I never even heard of it.
I dont see it in high level matches a lot so I dont actually know how effective it is (considering feints etc)
Im guessing if you get your opponents rythm down and analyzed him it gets reliable.
I think a standart high guard is more versatile and reliable though.

I see these moves as one or two step away from Wing Chun although their focus is more catch/parry and not so much of the block/cover.

I wanted an actual demonstration on how to catch a fist, not patty cakes.

This is quite possibly some of the worst form I've ever seen. I have no idea why YouTube recommended this video.
I normally try to stay away from leaving negative comments, but you're going to get someone severely hurt with this shit.
Your "catch" is just going to result in broken wrists.
Your parries are ineffective. Now, not all parries are.
A pak da, for example, is a solid parry with one hand, deflecting the incoming arm, with a counterattack from the other fist.
Think basic physics and fulcrum points.
If you parry at the fist, you're not going to be able to redirect much. Step in and parry further up the arm and you have a lot more control and deflection.
Blocks... Can be useful, but you're much more likely to bust up your arms doing a direct block like that.
A Krav style deflection (see above example) would be much more useful, safer, and allows for an easier counter attack more quickly.
You do make a good point with the boxing cover up, but that's a last resort when you're getting wailed on; it leaves very little room to counter and eventually a punch will get through.
