The only reason Melee is usable is because Most swords in terraria shoot projectiles. Also Summoner is simultaneously the most powerful and weak class at the same time. it can either do bosses damageless or the boss does you damagless.

As someone that is a melee main that has completed the game as a summoner, I can definitely say that the summoner class isn’t THAT bad. Sure, the most defense you usually get is no more than 40, but aside from that, the class isn’t bad. The only problem I had with it that wasn’t the defense was the amount of grinding I had to do for a necromantic scroll.
