Don’t forget the fandoms where canon and fanon versions blur so much - because the creators/writers are involved in the fandom and may change the original story bc of chemistry/good writing - that you can’t tell where one ends and the other starts. (Looking at you, Hannibal fandom). Bc that’s when the fun really starts.

Sometimes it's for the best, sometimes for the worst. It's cool when the fandom creates an actual personality for a carton character, collectively decides that some questionable Writing Choices™ didn't happen, or simply agrees that something between the scenes absolutely DID happen, but when people give characters traits that contradict who they are as a person or strip them of all of their complexity to make them more likable/shippable/easier to project onto… that's tragedy.
