We were in the trenches from 2am to 11pm on Friday fixing this in various places at my company. It was nailed down same day, IT dept is the favorite son for this week.

Fun/terrifying fact: This affected around 8 million windows PCs. (That just happened to run critical infrastructure) a big number for sure with global repercussions. To put it in perspective, that is only 1% of Windows based PC globally...

Big fan of the original content. It's always nice to see someone who instead of asking, can manage googling questions you have and gain knowledge for the topics you reference.

Remarkably crowdstrike sent clients 10$ uber eats coupons as reimbursements. It'll be interesting to see if there is any legal action taken. Ultimately it shows how fragile the global internet infrastructure is, with azure, AWS, Apple controlling such a large part of the internet and gaining market share.

There's a Russian Badger video from four years ago that is still funny to this day. It's a War Thunder video called "The Day of Reckoning", and I feel like you'd really enjoy it

Why Crowdstrike developers did have option to deploy to every client machine without testing, that is real question.
I work in small company, which develops sites, and even there we can't go to prod directly without deploying to test stand first

This is why IT departments should test any new updates before rolling it out to their corporate systems. Having any 3rd party application that automatically updates is insane to me.

Bro this crap happened the day that the Virtual Reality Master's Leauge was trying to fly it's finalists out to play live in Denver CO🤦‍♂️. Glad southwest was delay free

It's interesting that the impact of this outage was precisely the kind of thing they worried the Y2K bug would cause. Except, of course, they were able to mostly patch that out before it became a problem so it was a non-event.

Turns out it was an easy fix. boot in safe mode and delete some files. Thankfully it didn't fully corrupt machines or else this would have been such a disaster.

good thing that the company that i working at, dont use crowdstrike, so we manage to avoid the problem...

Crowdstrikee taking 'testing in prod' to the next level.

Also, is it just me, or does the BGM sound a little too loud in this video. Like, it's competing with your voice kinda loud.

The thing Crowdstrike and any other companies rolling out updates/data on such a scale and with such impact, should be "mandated by law" to check their crap in some safe test-environments, before they try it out in the field. Other than that, CS and their Falcon is still a great tool and alternative to usual virus scan and real time protection tools.

Hopefully they still exist after all the lawyers had their go with them and they actually learned their lesson, but heads will roll, sure of it.

I ran Avast until recently. Why? Because i was "Supposed to", and it was a small price to pay for peace while living with parents and a tech savy father that thinks he knows everything.

The us government probably gonna turn their heads to them cuz if the computer security was this shitty they'd be pissed.

It is the apex of demented behavior to put this many critical services and systems under the care of one roof. Absolutely idiotic. Have they not seen movies? Blade Runner? Dark Angel? Nobody? This didn't just affect private corps, this affected government systems. There are criminals that should've been incarcerated but are walking free because law enforcement couldn't process the subjects into their database. Either we diversify yesterday, or we are screwed.

I don't know how much related it is but, once I updated my Windows as well, my PC started getting BSODs as well, and for a couple of days. Only once a day, when I boot for the first time. Worst case scenario, my PC would boot straight to the BIOS, as if it wasn't recognizing my HDD or SSD - even though it was still booting.

It eventually got solved, at least I haven't been getting any BSODs anymore but I'm still skeptical, I'll still make sure everything's in order. PS: I'm a freelancer artist, so having that happening to me was terrifying.

this sound like a joke but what if it happened to a hospital and the doctors can't look your medical data and have to postpone medical procedure
