In June 2018, global experts and policy-makers converged at the University of Calgary to chew over the complex dilemma of unhealthy diets — a leading risk factor for death and disability in this country.

The free, two-day food policy forum was presented by the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta and the O'Brien Institute for Public Health in advance of the new Canada food guide, which was unveiled January 22, 2019.

This is the first of seven videos from that event: The Paradigm Shift.

Speakers in this video include, Dr. Norm Campbell, MD, a professor in the Department of Medicine and member of both the O'Brien and Libin institutes at the University of Calgary; Dr. Hasan Hutchinson, PhD, director general of the Office of Nutrition Policy and Promotion at Health Canada; Dr. William Yan, PhD, director, Bureau of Nutritional Sciences at Health Canada; Kim Kessler, assistant commissioner, Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Tobacco Control, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; Dr. Kim Raine, PhD, acting vice-dean, School of Public Health at the University of Alberta.
