Apple Diagnostics, formerly known as Apple Hardware Test, can check your Mac for hardware issues.

If you think your Mac might have a hardware issue, you can use Apple Diagnostics to help determine which hardware component might be at fault. Apple Diagnostics also suggests solutions and helps you contact Apple Support for assistance.

Apple Silicon M1 Mac Instructions
Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button as your Mac starts up.
Release when you see the startup options window, which includes a gear icon labeled Options.
Press Command (⌘)-D on your keyboard.

Bought my MBP M1 a week ago, Touch ID sensor isn't reading finger print so I tried to run Diagnostics to see if sensor was bad and it locked up as well. Its at the Apple store now doing the same thing for the techs and they state that since the units are so new they don't have an ETOC for rectifying this issue. Is the diagnostic lock up just a M1 thing or does it happen on Intel Macs as well?

Hi there - my mbp m1 on Big Sur 11.3 - my diagnostic never even starts moving and freezes with empty bar..I have to hard boot to get out the frozen mode. :( Apple couldn't help

I just tried the Apple Diagnostic test as of today 30/3/2020 on Version 11.2.3 on MacBook Pro M1, 2020 and still seems to not work as it keeps asking to choose language over and over.

Mine has been updated to 11.3 beta 6 and it locks up before the test can even start. I could have a fan issue but I will never get to know since apple diagnostics isn’t working 😢

Have you noticed that the backlight auto option is off but changes when the system is turned off and on?

My M1 MBP running Ventura 13.1 has screen crack. Due to that, the screen is completely dark and nothing can be read. I can use an external monitor for normal work. But when I try to run Diagnostics from boot, the external monitor does not mirror the screen. How can I do that for diagnostics? I used both direct HDMI cable, and adapter to connect to the external monitor. It also gets some signal after I boot in diagnostics (because the monitor does not go to powersave mode), but the screen does not show up.
