The tool you use depends on your Mac model and macOS version. To see the model and version, choose Apple menu - About This Mac.

If your Mac is from 2013 or later, use Apple Diagnostics, which is built into your Mac.

If your Mac is from 2012 or earlier and has OS X 10.8.4 or later, use Apple Hardware Test, which is built into your Mac.

If your Mac is from 2012 or earlier and has OS X 10.8.3 or earlier, use the system software disc or USB flash drive that came with your Mac.

Hey man, i tried it in terminal like you did, bit when i do sudo reboot it just reboots without checking. I dont get a loading thing like you have.. Any solutions?

2017 MacBook Pro. When pressing D it only brings me to network prompt with spinning globe and asks for PW. Stalls once PW entered. When pressing Command + D it just sits on a blank startup screen forever, if I let go it just starts normally.

I've tried it on my 2017 5K iMac, but it doesn't work. I've tried also with the combination "option+D" (for Apple Assistant via WiFi), but it doesn't work. Can anybody help me?

Can't run Apple Diagnostics eather way. Start way (D key) asks to connect to WiFi and then spins the globe (i suppoes its Recovery Mode), the geeky way reboots Mac with an error displaying explanation point over globe (-5101D).. any ideas?

Cool way, however I tried it out on El Capitan - unfortunately didn't work (also I can't run it with the old fashioned way by pressing D or Option-D on restart). Any ideas?

I tried this - using disk and network options on the terminal command but each time my macbook reboots but i get the dreaded ‘computer restarted bescause of an error’. Ive reformatted hard drive and done a complete reinstall of monterey but cannot get diagnostics to run on my macbook (model a1989)
