I love that you looked down at your cat while saying that last line. We love mini murder machines

Forgot to mention that only the French Char 2C made it as a limited production run, the largest tank to had ever seen service!

And considering that the Western front of WWI consisted 70% of mud, even the earliest “light” tanks were sinking into that stuff more often than not. A land battleship would have gone under in about 5 seconds.

The movie "all quiet on the Western front" shows the horrors these machines commited on no-man's land and what it was like to face them as a German soldier.

Im literally traumatised from it

Red Army: “Aha! Now that we have a Super Heavy Tank we are sure to win the Eastern Front!”

Stukas: “Are you sure about that?”

"But none of these ideas never really took off."

Yeah, most couldn't wheel themselves off the factory lines

Thing is, the larger the tank, the more vulnerable they are to artillery fire, which has always been their bane, so...

The Ratte from Nazi Germany was the most ridiculous landship design I've ever heard of imo

Ty for paying the "cat tax"!!! You last line is so cute, as you look at & reference your cat! They really are like the purrrr-fect, small in size, killing/murder machine! 😸❤💯

H.G. Wells wrote a science fiction story called "The Land Ironclads" around 1905.
In it he predicts the concept of armoured battle machines we would later call 'tanks', but with big differences from even the first tanks of WWI.
For example, his tanks did not have self laying tracks or treads. They walked on multiple, short legs and feet directly under the tank body. He explained that they used legs because wheels could not overcome minor obstructions like rocks and logs and riverbanks.
The second major difference was that they were primarily an anti- personnel weapon and were only armed with multiple rifles of a squad of soldiers inside. They did not carry cannon, and were largely used against enemy soldiers, not other tanks, . cannon or fortification.
The third difference was that their weapons were not directly aimed at the enemy, but each rifle had a camera obscura like device that projected an image ( via a periscope) of the outside onto a plotting table
It had two perpendicular pointers to move. the rifles and where their points met on the projected age was where rifles fired when you pushed a firing Burton.

The cat is unbeknownst to whats going on and this man is comparing it to the industrialization of tanks in modern warfare
