I think the biggest factor in favor of the M3 MacBook is that you're virtually guaranteed to get a few extra years of OS updates and general longevity out of the device. Considering who usually buys these, having a few more years of not feeling like your device is outdated is worth the price premium.

My 2012 MBAir just streamed two days of march madness, 10 hours, 2 games on two monitors and it didn’t hick up once. I also just bought an M2 MBAir M2 15inch - 16 GB - 1TB for a steal and it’s wonderful.

I bought a like new 13 inch M2 from eBay with 512gb of storage and 16gb of RAM for longevity. Paid less than the base M3 and I couldn't be happier - incredible performance for such a thin, light and silent machine. Unless you need dual monitor support, I think this is the best move.

Out of curiosity, can it stay on all day? I usually keep my laptop turned on and connected to an external monitor, engaging in various activities like video editing with Premiere Pro, using Photoshop, Figma, Chrome with about 10-15 tabs open, Firefox, and Notion.

Nice video. I would like to purchase the 15" MBA M3. The maximum RAM possible is 24 GB and 2 TB SSD. Will that be sufficient enough for running virtual lab environment. Say like 2 or 3 Servers and client OS.

What video editing software do you use? I am heavily considering this model. I currently have a 2017 MBP that needs to be upgraded as I am starting to have some problems with it. I edit using iMovie currently, but am thinking of going to FCP.

Thanks for the time and effort you put into making this video!

The base model MacBook Air would great for me. I won’t be scared to buy the base model when starting online college courses. I check my email, Facebook, watch YouTube and that’s it. I am hoping to buy the M1 MacBook Air. GREAT VIDEO!!!!

I just bought my apple MacBook Air M3 for college work, I think it may be a bit over kill but I’m doing automotive engineering so I’ll need a good portion of power to do task.

This MacBook Air is better than the MacBook Pro you purchased during the pandemic.

Midnight looks nice but everyone has a black or grey laptop, Starlight is unique and my fav, enjoying my upgrade to the M3 and looking to set up duel monitors.

Apple could just be the better company and start their base Macs at a decent 16gb RAM. They're so cheap on this.

I’m debating between a MBA or a MBP (either with 16/512)

It would be for personal use and my job… a bit of gaming (mostly retro stuff), some scripting, some VSCode dev work, a lot of zoom/teams, and a lot of remoting into servers via terminal or Remote Desktop apps.

I want to use two monitors but I hear the dual monitor with the lid closed on the MBA is causing serious performance drop

I would likely try to sell my m1 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and pencil to get one. I don’t use it as often as I expected to

I really like MacBook Air, I think the concept of a laptop is that it should be portable. Im currently using an iMac but for for my current work the company is giving me an M3 Air 24GB of ram and 1TB disk.

workflow: we use and web base tool for design as well as photoshop so im currently having like 9 ps files open mostly under 100mb some times can get to 500mb per file. and have like 16 chrome tab (because safari doesn't work as well for the company tools that are mostly chrome-windows base) also use media encoder an some illustrator brevely.

my current Mac is a 27 inch iMac late 2015 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 16gb of ram and 1tb hard drive. so it will be a big step up.

Thanks so much for getting to the point in the first minute of the video. Most people would have drawn out that conclusion to the end of the video

Still on a M1 2020 13 inch MBP and I have no desire to upgrade. It sits at home everyday and for the average stuff I do on it, I am probably gonna still be using it at the end of the decade.

Do you feel as if the MacBook Air with 512 SSD, and 16 GB of RAM is sufficient enough to edit 4K, 10 bit 4.2.2 footage with a few layers?

I can purchase a 16 inch MacBook Pro with an M1 Pro chip, 512 SSD and 16 GB RAM for $1, 200, or the 15 inch MacBook Air with 512 SSD, 16 GB RAM refurbished for 1, 500.

What would you recommend?

I purchased my M2 15-inch Air base model for $999 from Best Buy, just before the announcement of the M3 models. As a casual user who doesn't engage in heavy tasks on my personal laptop, I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase. The machine is stunning and a joy to use for any purpose, with its beautiful 15-inch screen providing an excellent viewing experience. As mentioned in this video, for average users like myself, the difference between the M2 and M3 models isn't significant unless specific M3 features are required, such as dual monitor support or ray tracing for gaming—features most users won't need.

It's remarkable that the current landscape allows for such powerful M chips, to the extent that reviewers now not only recommend the latest model but also its predecessors. We're living in a time where technological advancements continue to impress.
