But the previous-generation M3 was that perfect blend of performance, practicality and class. But now that they're a few years old and have thousands of kilometres on the clock, what you should you be careful of if you're thinking of buying one?

At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.

Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.

Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.

So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.

We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

Just bought an F80 M3 last week, best car ever, never selling it

I had the opportunity to drive an M4 last week and was completely blown away. Car is extremely fast and sounds good. You really feel connected to the car, as soon as you hit the gas, it's like a monster come to life. Don't think I can daily an M4 cause I know I'll get in some serious trouble

I love how wide the rear arches on these are, the whole design is just gorgeous imo, and I'm actually a fan of the sound, unlike most

I daily drive my F80 M3 Pure in Sydney and I can tell you it is too fast to truely enjoy on the Rd. 'I'm going to jail territory' is simply the most accurate way of putting it.

Had my M4 for 2 years now and definitely agree with this great review. One thing I’d add is road noise on chipped tarmac at high speed, a bit too loud. But honestly I can’t think of a car on the road today that I’d rather have over the M3/M4 from the F gen. Are they too fast? Quite possibly yes, but that doesn’t mean I want it any slower 😂

I can tell you from owning an F80 for two years that this car is just a blast to drive. Mines a 6 speed and pushing about 500whp. No problems with the car either and I drive it hard. There is the crankhub issue for the higher modded cars and also the factory top mount charge cooler is prone to leak so I changed mine to a mishimoto unit just as preventative maintenance, plus gives like 30hp. Other than that really, solid car. Just a perfect daily when you want it to be and a monster the next. The car does ride on the firmer side though vs regular 3/4 series. Also have a equal length midpipe so it sounds like a n55/ gtr mix now. Third gear is my favorite, get traction and it just pulls all the way to redline, hard.

Having the money to buy it, does not mean you have ability to drive it.

As a fellow F80 owner i completely agree with most of the pointers. Is it too fast for our aussie streets? Yes, as a daily i would be lucky to use 20% of it's powers. But as a car guy i couldn't care less. I enjoy the driving feeling everyday and couldn't think of any other car to replace it with.

I've had my m4 for two years now and the only things I've had to replace are brake disks and pads on the front (wear and tear items) and two lambda sensors. However i think the sensors broke during repair to my car after I crashed it.
Very reliable car. Very well built. I barely even felt the crash too. It cost a LOOOOT to fix (insurance) even thought it was maybe only 40 mph into a pole but the car is very solid and safe.
Just be careful as it's not a car for inexperienced chavs.

I have an M4 and I personally think it looks just as good as the M3. I'll probably replace it with an M3 for the practicality further down the track though. Also, good to note that the crank hub can be fixed preventatively through a capture plate for <$1k installed

Just bought an M3. Great car. Sold a 981 Cayman GTS due practicality reasons. The Porsche has 340hp NA and was infinitely more fun. If anyone here doesn’t need or use the rear seats then definitely give one a go. The M3 is amazing, but the Porsche is a light year beyond in excitement and noise.

Owning an M3 or M4 would be awesome but the problem is having all that performance on ordinary roads would be annoying just like having a pretty girlfriend that won’t let you into her pants

Jim's opinions are very valuable for me. I am glad he participated in this video. Never forget to record Jim's opinion in your videos. He is a great addition. Well done.

I loved mine. Most well built car I’ve owned out of many. Not a rattle or single issue. Only thing is how fast you have to push it on the street to have any fun is ridiculous. It’s actually just too good for the street. You can basically double your normal speed through round abouts and corners. This means it can be quite boring.

Great review. I pick my F80 M3 up this week and I cannot wait. Bought it for a couple of reasons. firstly because I've wanted one for ages and secondly because I bought a 330ci Msport several years ago instead of the M3 and really suffered on the depreciation. The car is insanely fast but never too fast. Its so great too know what you've got available should the situation present itself.

Had mine for 29k miles over 3 years and zero maintenance other than typical fluids and a set of spark plugs which I did in my garage. Buy one with Comp package that hasn’t been tuned and you’re nearly guaranteed a good experience.

I drove an M4 around Eastern Creek, (BMW track day) a few years ago. I still have the smile on my face. I owned a 428i coupe, just before the extended warranty ran out the turbo let go. The extended warranty ended up being cheap, otherwise that was almost a $6000 dent in the wallet.

Having just purchased this particular model, exact colour, spec etc. I have to say the handling is exceptional. Without giving it the full beans everywhere I go, driving sensibly to maximise fuel consumption and as a daily driver.
It's spot on.

The cracked M logo on the seats were revised after 2017 and don’t crack, but 2014-2016 OEM cracks
