Plasticity -- Brand New 3D Modelling App

preview_player
Показать описание
Plasticity is a NURBS based 3D modelling application that is currently under development, that is partially open source.

Plasticity is described as:
Plasticity is a 3d modelling software for concept artists. Modeling in Plasticity is quick and efficient due to the unique gizmos, shortcuts, and thoughtful workflow.

The goal of plasticity is to make working with NURBS like working with clay.

I can see this approach being adopted by many major software platforms. I am very happy to see that someone has finally made an easy to use, intuitive, 3D design program that is focused on just that. Sure, the bells and whistles that some of the other programs have are nice when you need them, but much of the time they are just in the way.
Thank you for the video!

When this video started, I had to double check to make sure that I didn't have the playback speed set to 2x.

Also, the R in NURBS is for rational, not "relational."

Great stuff!

3d modelling kept very simple well designed, for a one off fee you cant go wrong. Well done to the creator of the program 👍🇬🇧

Cool video, I have been following the development of Plasticity and this is seriously impressive work as it is made by only one person Nick Kallen and his YouTube channel is cool as you get to see the progression from the start, its only been being made for the last six or seven months. Its incredible.

I use CAD for making stuff for 3d printing, and generally am a big fan of NURBS workflow. Will be beta testing this bad boy, as my current goto affordable software is DesignSpark Mechanical, which is missing some features. The fact that this is (largely?) FOSS and from an active developer makes it look like it might become my main driver for modelling for 3d printing. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

I predict a bright and amazing future for Plasticity!

Boolean i am in.
Solidworks, Catia, 3DSMAX, Sketchup and Blender are amazing by themselves and yet i think that Plasticity can definitely find a place beside them.

NURBS is very useful even with the more limited surfaces you can find in Blender, as an initial step in generating the form of organic meshes. I used Blender's NURBS just today, in fact. It generates really smooth shapes without introducing topology puzzles, which can be a big time-saver if you're trying to block out something for sculpting and need to get some twisty concave shapes in there; the downside of it being just a surface is that you still have to figure out how to stitch multiple surfaces into a seamless mesh afterwards - in the end you still have to deal with some aspects of polygonal modelling to finish most assets, it's just a way to sidestep some initial difficulty. But with the addition of CSG booleans in Plasticity, the situation could be rather different with many more usages.

I'm so glad this exists! This is the kind of modelling that works best for me. I used to use Google Sketchup quite a lot back when it was free and only the plugins costed money. I've been looking for a replacement to it for years now, this looks exactly like what I've been looking for!

Blender should take a note on the hotkeys displays and make it toggleable for users. Would be a dream to assist users when they are first starting out.

I remember there was another modeling program that had hundreds of pre-made shapes and all a person would have needed to do was pick shapes from the big list and keep combining those shapes until they have the model that they tried to make and then export it.

The software that I am talking about was covered on this channel. But, I forgot what it's called.

10 sec in and it already looks attractive

I hope you can fix the move/rotate/scale keyboard shortcuts.

If this supports assigning units, this would be an awesome tool for quickly modeling up parts for 3D printing! (as many others have already said)
Gonna give it a go!

Does it allow you to put in specific measurements (mm, cm, in) so you can use them for 3D printing? Save as STL?

The workflow I use is sketch a 2d plane, extrude, then cut, slice, boolean, fillet, chamfer.. You create planes to sketch on in 3d Space as needed. It's a super fast workflow.

There ain't much there yet, but what is there is VERY well done.
I would very much recommend, trying it out.
It is basically everything that FreeCAD is missing, and vice versa.

This is great! It solid models a lot like AutoCAD with some QoL from Blender. Strangely enough this workflow fits my thought process far better than the "correct" workflow that is forced by a lot of modelling suites.

This is just what I need but unfortunately I'm unable to get it because its on Github, which is just a maze and impossible to figure out which file to download.

Hey i can see this super useful for 3D printing purposes; love the STEP file export option!
