The fact that Blender is completely free and that good is crazy honestly

People forgot that Blender has million more tutorials to learn it which makes it much better to learn

"Oh what's that?"
"HOUDINI."

Even if it is not the best at everything, Blender is just the more consistent and practical choice, free, easy to use and learn, full of tutorials and documentation.
Sure if you are a professional with years of experience and money, you would prefer a software that is the best at something specific, but for 90% of people, Blender would always come out as the best choice.

Watching one of your videos many years ago led to a chain of events and i am now going into a game design degree. Thankyou for the blender donut tutorial.

if you asked 6000 users and majority use blender made by a guy who makes blender tutorials explains it all

I have access to several of those, but pretty much always return to Max for modelling, Maya for rigging - others I use occasionally and for bits and pieces that are easier to do such as Grooms and Normal to Displacement conversion etc. Guess you use what you're used to.

As someone who learn 3d from blender and 3ds max, houdini is just a whole different level of software. It feels more like a virtual machine rather than a 3d software.

Blender 🔥 it's like a Super-Man with multi powers 🤩

I’m learning Houdini at the moment and I absolutely love it. I’ve been using Blender for over a decade so funnily enough getting into Houdini wasn’t as steep a learning curve because all the 3D fundamentals are easily transferable. The simulations in Houdini is f***ing epic! I got tired of the FLIP sim domain being maxed out to 10m by 10m in blender. Plus the granularity of sims in Houdini is the chef’s kiss.
Blender is the better modeller not that is any surprise. And since I’m comfortable in Blender I can use that for modelling. And then move everything to Houdini for sim.
Blender materials node based workflow is more sensible tho. Houdini you’re going between panels and nodes which I guess if you’re used to makes sense. But I prefer the node based work flow for materials in blender.

Blender often carries the misconception of being lower quality due to its free, open-source nature. However, when you enhance it with some well-crafted Python scripts and robust add-ons, it easily matches the price of Maya Indie—only with a much more engaging and customizable user experience. It's hard to beat the creative freedom that comes with using Blender. I'll say Blender is better than Autodesk one more time. I had to use Autodesk for my last class and was dead inside the whole semester.

As a 3D artist I want to say that arguing about which program is the best is like arguing about which food tastes better. It all comes down to the personal experience of the individual and what they want to do. For example, Maya is good for animation, and 3D Max is good for modeling objects, such as furniture. Blender is popular not only because it is free, but also because it has a lot of things you can do, etc.

Was interesting to see Blender was also second in a lot of them too

I just found 3D Coat. Seems really promising, and a fairly cheap lifetime license.

Also, if you want a specific change / improvement to happen to your favorite piece of 3D software, Blender gets you the highest chance for it to actually happen. Whether as a native feature, addon or a custom script that someone can just glue for you in half an hour on a forum. Happened to me many times. No other soft has ever made so many of my wishes come true.

Blender, Unreal, and 3DCoat is all I need 😎. Screw greedy Adobe and Autodesk (This is coming from a Maya and Substance Painter user)

But, I mean.. how are Unreal or Unity "3D softwares"? I've worked as a Game Artist for a while, and it's not like a game engine will replace a modeling software anytime soon, or the other way around.

Finally, someone considers gamedev folks as 3D artists, not just VFX.

3ds Max is pretty good these days. Just that lots of its features are ancient and are kept even in the latest version (for backwards compatibility).. they should add their upgrades .. MassFX, mCloth, plus a few dozen modifiers..
