Is Salt Good for You: the Benefits of Pink Himalayan Sea Salt

Salt, just like fat, has gotten a bad rap over the years as an unhealthy food, and there are entire diets around limiting salt intake to prevent things like hypertension. The truth is that eating the right kinds of salt, and in the right amounts, is not only beneficial for you, but it is essential for proper functioning.

Not all salt is created equal. The bleached, iodized table salt that has anti-caking additives is not the same food as a pure, unadulterated version, such as pink himalayan sea salt. Eating the standard, junk salt is harmful for you because of the additives, chemical processing, and added trace minerals, whereas the real salt with minimal processing can help with regulating adrenal function, thyroid & hormone production, blood pressure, and proper hydration levels. Taking up to a teaspoon of high-quality sea salt in a glass of water in the morning, when your body is particularly efficient at utilizing sodium, can help to ensure that you produce proper amounts of cortisol and other important hormones, and help you function properly the rest of the day.

It is important to listen to your body and pay attention to your salt cravings. If you are craving salty food, it means that your body needs more salt, and you should oblige and add some to your next meal or a glass of water. Obviously if you are part of the small percentage of people who is super sensitive to salt you will need to be more careful with your intake, but for the vast majority of people, the government RDA's are woefully low and can result in higher risk of heart attack, not a lower one.

I popped a small rock of himalayan sea salt and now I'm hooked. I had energy all day like I hadn't before. Good stuff!

I started putting salt in my coffee when someone mentioned it makes it less bitter. I don't really notice a taste difference, but I only put probably less than quarter teaspoon, but I salt pretty much everything I eat with sea salt.

My WHOLE LIFE I've craved salt and since I've been taking a tsp of salt in water in the water in the morning, I never crave it but years ago I used to eat tons of table salt and still crave more and more and more. I must have needed those minerals to be craving it like that! Been on the Bulletproof diet for 5 months and it's the best thing I've done for myself ever. Never felt better!

You always talk about supplementing salt, but you never say how much salt!

Some fields of thought steer clear of those fancy sea salts because of their iron content, and suggest something like Morton pickling salt instead.

Telling people that they are not a good person if they don't get the salt intake sorted is the wrong approach mate.

Having a cup of saltwater to raise your blood pressure ? This has to be a joke. Like smoke a cigarette to increase your heart rate?? What a dummy
