Hello Aluxers! What is the most expensive mistake you have ever made?

My biggest mistake was loving my narcissistic mother and brother and I could do anything to make money just to make those lazy irresponsible people happy, costs my life. To find out your own blood family is using you for money is like a death.

What about Jan-Feb 2020, when world leaders sat on their hands during the COVID outbreak?

What are the costs to date of these losses?

Considering how quickly we managed to react to SARS often leaves me wondering how much of this was allowed to happen...

Reactions to the mistakes mentioned:
1: How did they not check the size of the trains beforehand? Wouldn't the company making the trains state the size beforehand?
2: Is that even the most expensive disaster? Wasn't Chernobyl handled much worse than Three-Mile-Island?
3: I knew there was one disaster that was caused by conversion errors. I didn't know about that one.
4: I expected it to be the Titanic, and it was.
5: I knew of that one already. However, with those mistakes, it take years to realize that it was a mistake.
6: Oof. It's not like fires are common in California nowadays.
7: That was one massive typo. Hopefully it was fixed later on, or at least the company recovered.
8: Yeah. When I was in Student Council at my high school, the sponsor always put emphasis on communication, and for good reason, even though we only deal with money in the thousands of dollars at most.
9: How did Chrysler lose that much money in those 9 years?
10: There's a lot of hindsight bias in that one. However, crude oil was a new industry and it was only in America. At the time, the Russians didn't have much use for Alaska, but didn't want the British to get their hands on it, so they decided to sell it to America, as it was the next best thing. And only the southern parts of Alaska were inhabited by Russians, and only a few thousand lived there.
Bonus Question: Not sure. I'm only 18.

You learn only from your mistakes and failures. Don't let your failures weigh you down. Surround yourself with people who will lift you higher. Have a great day.

In my early 20s, I bought a beat up Nissan Sentra from a shady Craigslist. I was not the brightest nor did I know anything about cars. Left the lot without calling insurance. Less than an hour engine started to steam, I pulled over and got the hell out of the car. The engine itself caught on fire.

That was a 742 dollar mistake for one hour or less of driving. I guess not that bad in the grand scheme of things.

The largest mistake: When the U.S. agreed to the Paris Climate Accord while China ignored it and went on to become the largest economy while the U.S. experienced weekly blackouts due to a lack of fossil fuels.
