Taser's Big Plan: 'Every Cop Will Be RoboCop'

"WHEN CIVIL LIBERTIES advocates discuss the dangers of new policing technologies, they often point to sci-fi films like “RoboCop” and “Minority Report” as cautionary tales. In “RoboCop,” a massive corporation purchases Detroit’s entire police department. After one of its officers gets fatally shot on duty, the company sees an opportunity to save on labor costs by reanimating the officer’s body with sleek weapons, predictive analytics, facial recognition, and the ability to record and transmit live video.

Although intended as a grim allegory of the pitfalls of relying on untested, proprietary algorithms to make lethal force decisions, “RoboCop” has long been taken by corporations as a roadmap. And no company has been better poised than Taser International, the world’s largest police body camera vendor, to turn the film’s ironic vision into an earnest reality.”*

Great, always wanted to be pulled over for speeding and be told, "dead or alive you're coming with me".

"Predictive policing" is plain unconstitutional. A crime needs to happen before you can be convicted (unless of course you are not a US citizen... you have the PATRIOT act to thank for that one).

what about suspects not proven... what if it's your child just being upset?

How many hidden directives will be installed in these "RoboCops"
1) serve and protect (the establishment).

I feel its better if the footage is auto stored on private server because it will reduce the chance of the footage going "missing" when its needed.

This is what the machine does: darker the skin color, higher the danger.

They do realise "RoboCop" was a dark satire about police brutality and the privatisation of security, right? You're not supposed to want to be RoboCop, you're meant to want to avoid that future at all costs.

I predict in the future all police officers will be like Terminator robots with the same mentality

Body cameras do not usually show police actions in the sense that you can't usually see the officer except for his hands.

Taser gives you the gun because you have to come back to them to buy the ammo which costs more than the gun.

I thought watchdogs already handled this. You cannot allow a company to have power over law enforcement.
