Have you noticed autism facial features in people with autism?

Have been masking and learning how to present myself to others, but sometimes it comes off too strong. The main thing was to stop staring at people in the eyes too long and deeply. I tend to dart my eyes around while talking to others, but it is better than staring. I did a lot of practicing in the mirror as a child and young adult, which helped. Also, I just accepted that I will have to be a good actress to get ahead in life.

People sometimes think I'm mad.
I'm not. I'm probably concentrating or thinking.

There are advantages to having an expressionless face. You have fewer wrinkles when you get older. I don't mean to brag, but I'm 47 and have fewer wrinkles than some other people my age. (I think retinol and sunscreen also help, though.)

Yes! I've noticed this in my boyfriend and his mother...high broad forehead, wideset eyes, and shorter noses...they are very attractive, and They love discussing facts but not feelings. This is good to know!. Thank you for sharing this information.

I had a friend I couldn't understand. I now know that she had characteristics of autism. She never looked me in the eye when she spoked to me, and our conversations were "broken" meaning, she couldn't seem to "follow the script." She is a very intelligent person, was a successful health care professional for many years, and is extremely caring - but has a hard time showing it outwardly, emotionally. I stopped being friends with her before I understood autism. Now I think we could have a much better relationship because I wouldn't take her "dismissive" behavior personally.

Both my husband and son aspies have that expressionless face. It used to worry me but now I know it doesn't mean anything. I also noticed from early childhood that my son can't smile like NT's. His smile is more like a grin. Same with husband. I love also how you point out to work on things but don't focus on those, focus on your strengths! Great advice!

I love how you point out not to put all your energy into it when you have so many other good attributes. I think it’s important to be yourself and not change for the sake of others. There are many ways to communicate with others without having to feel like your forcing facial expressions.

Thanks for another great video! The facial features of having wider eyes and a shorter nose and cheek area and then wider area between the nose is super interesting to me because it definitely describes my youngest daughter (who was diagnosed shortly after she hit 18 months) and to a lesser extent describes my older daughter who is also on the spectrum. When they were babies the biggest sign was that they both had basically no response to sound or other stimuli, which made them the easiest babies in the world to care for, they were always so happy and were never upset. Tessie (the younger of the two) definitely usually has a "blank" expression unless she's sensory seeking.

Again, thanks for the information. Super interesting!

I absolutely have seen these signs! I am not autistic but my nephew definitely shows these signs but I don’t think his mother is open to learning more. There’s no way she doesn’t notice it if I’ve notice it in just 1 week of close time with him. Parents: please don’t be selfish…when you see signs learn more! There’s nothing wrong! Prepare them to even be able to be aware of their special differences vs the other folk. Autistic ppl are such AMAZING beings! Although im not autistic I much rather hang out with someone who is because they’re just cool as hell.

Personally I don't think we should change who we are to fit in. I don't think facial features are a thing we should work on even of it does make others unease. It's part of who we are and what makes us different and beautiful. Other things such as improving as individuals, hygiene and socializing are things we should work on but that's just me. We need to draw the fine line between erasing who we are and improving as a person.

people always think I look too serious. My face though is different then what you describe; being narrow at the top; but my cheeks are fuller and stick out and the bottom of my face is narrow. However; it's ok; just as you said; it's not overly important; because skills and abilities are more important. My mother used to get on me alot about not smiling; so I learned And when I forget; random strangers tell me to smile!! it's crazy! Oh well; it's life.
Hey Thanks for the video! I liked it!

My best buddy at work has exactly as you described, he is Asperger's and other factors. He does however practice having facial expressions, and can raise his eyebrows and make an amused expression which is always a little shocking when he actually does it. He's also getting better at mirroring other people's expressions when having a conversation. He's an older adult though. Cool video 🤓

Interesting! I've just recently met a boy with ASD who looked like the twin brother of one of my students, and they also looked alike from back, and gestures were really similar too

When you say "and that" the way that you do, it makes me smile because it reminds me of many of the kids I grew up with. God bless.

This was a wonderful comment section to read. For some reason I have never known anyone with autism or aspergers. I am 70 amd have heard that the number of people diagnosed has increased quite a bit over the years.
It was good to learn from people here what their experiences are and how they feel about it.

My spouse is high-functioning Aspergian. I've noticed that he walks with short strides, often rises to the balls of his feet, and turns his palms out while walking. I saw the same traits in his uncle, a cousin, and a second cousin, all on the autistic spectrum. They live in different countries so this isn't learned by observation.
