The Riggory of Drag Race UK 1

Time to take another trip across the pond to talk about one of the highest regarded and most iconic seasons in RuPaul's Drag Race History, Drag Race UK Season 1!

From "much betta!" to the Frock Destroyers and the age old rivalry between the Vivienne and Divina De Campo, there is so much to dive into with this season. With so many fan favorites, there's bound to be some riggory to get them all to the end of the competition, and I'm here to break down every episode, calling out the storytelling, the production decisions, and of course the riggory!

When UK S1 is considered "an older season of drag race" when it came out 2 whole years ago, you know the franchise is on a sprint spree...

Honestly my fave thing was scaredy’s elimination, she just walks off and says: ‘not a bad first gig’ GAGGING 😂😂

My mind is still blown that Divina won that makeover, it’s like Rebecca Glasscock level

I went to Crystal’s viewing party for the finale and when she asked who people wanted to win, it was HEAVILY in favour of Divina - I think a lot of people just didn’t listen to Vivienne’s growth in time for the finale and instead primarily focused on what she was like before with Divina and Cheryl

I think my favorite moment of the season being Cheryl lipsyncing to Cheryl in front of Cheryl is a great example of non rigged storylines that are amazing. This season had a lot of good non rigged moments that other seasons force and it proves UK is just that good.

Glad someone is portraying The Vivienne in a positive light. Everyone always says how “Divina was robbed” when the two of them were neck and neck, so it just came down to storytelling and i think The Viv had a better growth arc.

these are my favourite kind of videos that you do, and lot of people have their opinions on how rigged a season is but I feel like you are the most objective

Could you do like a type of video called who was the "protagonist" of each season, and see who got the best storyline most confessionals, basically who the production made you root for in each season? Cause sometimes the winners weren't exactly the most focused in the season.

I personally loved this season; however, the water commercial episode infuriated me beyond belief. Baga should have 100% been in the bottom over blu and the only reason she wasn't was because they wanted her show with the Vivienne to be a success. I'm guessing they assumed baga going home (because ain't no way in hell she would have bested cheryl to a cheryl song in front of cheryl) would harm the viewership or something? Whatever blu is an icon and so is baga but the primary colour that creates green when mixed with yellow did not deserve the bottom 2 with that look and ad.

The Vivienne gave me some May Day fashion vibes for the James Bond runway. Bagas look was a reference to Oddjob, so I'd let it slide too, but Vinegars was pretty bad.

While it still wasn’t amazing props to Gothy for making her queen look the night before out of her hotel room curtains because she didn’t have one!

You forgot that Baga should have been up for elimination in episode 6. She had one of the worst runway looks of the season and just as awful of a commercial. Blu had a really cute look which should have saved her so that was some riggory you missed.

As a British queer brown person, I always kinda hated that they had American judges in Ru and Michelle. It felt like aspects of the UK drag culture were missed in the judging especially certain references. It felt to me like you were rewarded for using the most obvious UK reference that Ru might actually get rather than things that reflect UK gay culture especially black and brown UK gay culture.

They really put Cheryl low and Sum Ting in the bottom and put Baga safe, huh?
