Leana Haffer from IGN is a good reviewer, especially his grand strategy games reviews like Crusader Kings 3 or Hearts of Iron that seem to be his cup of tea. But to me, he sounded way too dismissive and patronizing towards AOE4 and Relic. I think this review does the game way more justice as to what it has to offer.

I literally just started typing in Age of Empires just to watch a few clips from old games and this was a nice surprise.

The one day I search for this and I find out there's a brand new game that just came out!

This felt like a review from someone who enjoyed the game but otherwise doesnt know much about RTS games. Missing a lot of info on details of the game, balance, ages, AI in combat etc

I am curious to try it out of course. But as a player that started with AOE1 in the 90s, and loved AOE2, do we really need this new chapter when the Definitive Edition of AOE2 is so polished and good quality? There is an active competitive multiplayer scene, much much more civilizations and new content released so it really feels alive. I am just wondering cause this AOE4 seems a bit unnecessary to me

This is the second big review to call the English side boring. Guess Relic just phoned that side in. I do love the idea behind the Mongols though. Wonder if you can send flaming flocks of birds over enemy camps like they used to.

There's a factual error, this is a game based on history, so it's important. Rus are Ruthenians, not Russians as this actually refers to Kievan Rus in the game. There weren't proper Russians at that time, the term refers to a way broader range of East Slavic ethnicities that lived in the Kievan Rus and around. Russians as we know them today is a very very late term.
