I actually prefer the battle system of this Ni No Kuni over the 2nd one. Familiars are more useful and have more of a personality. I felt more of a desire to get more familiars than I did higgledies.

I totally agree with you about the MP restoring items. Why are they so expensive? 800G for a Strong Coffee that only restores 30 MP? They are so expensive that the only time I use magic is in boss battles.

0:57 stutters while she's talking about it being smooth. The irony lol

The Ni No Kuni on the PS3 has by far my favorite collector's edition of any game as it came with the physical version of the book that was mentioned in this video. Such a cool thing to have

I didn’t seem to notice the issues you mentioned when I played this on the PS3, maybe because I would happily run around grinding I didn’t notice the problems with equipping my companions or even money issues. I also loved the battle system but that does seem to set me apart. I never completed the game though; I repeatedly died at the final boss with her being down to the last few percent in her final manifestation. I found it a long fight and having to do it repeatedly sapped my will to live so accepted defeat and went on you tube to see the kill.

I loved the game but haven’t carried that through to Ni No Kuni 2 where I have walked away about a quarter of the way through the game because it never seemed to grip me as much (and I missed drippy intensely).

I do not recognize the trouble with money or the battle system. Sounds like you rushed the game tbh.
With the ‘tactics’ option you can be very efficient in battles and if you complete the errands and bounty hunts when they’re available money, items and equipment shouldn’t be an issue either.

I loved this game so much I got the platinum trophy on PS3 when I was 14-15 years old

One thing I remember from the PS3 version is the Genie boss battle that comes out of nowhere :0|

I found battling quite stressful in the beginning, but once I accepted that you just have to commit to it, you really start leveling up very quickly and gaining perks to further beef up your familiars.

IIRC, it would have been a lot easier if they had introduced the ability to defend or go all out around 3-6 hours earlier.

I have been looking far and wide for something to explain why Swaine has a longer steal animation in the remaster first some reason

I am in love with this game and is an all-time favorite, but indeed the AI companions in this Remaster seem a bit dumb. I don't remember having to micromanage during battles in the PS3 version as the AI companions held their own (sadly, I no longer have the PS3 to test this out), or at least I don't remember pausing mid-battle to check on everyone's HP and MP as much then as I do now

I wanted to play NNK1 on ps3 but never got round to it and sold it. I now have a PS4 and I really want to get it so is the remaster the same as the one on ps3 just with graphic enhancements?

I play this. The game is good i think. I enyoy play this game. The Graphic is stuning, the gameplay, the story is good, and so many information about the world that we can read. Raise the familiar, like pokemon, we give traits and so many to do, which is good.

Hmm... I don't think this reviewer plays a lot of jrpg's. The battle system is clunky on the first few hours but really opens up later on. The economy has been fixed since you can sell the potions given at the start for 4.5k each, and the AI is fine, maybe this reviewer didn't have a good party? Overall it's an amazing game, get it.

For those curious, the main problems out lined here, mainly be the battle system and lack of funds, is because this game is based on a old jrpg trope that was still strong back then but is kinda growing a bit old now. Required grinding. This game requires you to grind your levels to complete the guild quests for money, as well as random encounter for money. It requires a (Annoyingly so) long grind session normally to get the familiers you want and to raise them up. It requires you to grind ingredients to be thrown into the alchemy pot. It requires more then surface level investiment for a more enjoyable time.
As for the battle system the thing about it is, it flows much better when you play it like a old school jrpg like its other systems call back to. Micromanage your party members. You can't control their every action but you can make seen them due just enough to where it feels like you are. Thats why the Ai is kinda dumb. Not only is it dated but due to the systems ability to manage your party and its actions on the fly it requires you to be more attentive and remember you are controlling 3 members each with the ability to switch roles on the fly with their familiar.

I wonder how much that physical spell book goes for nowadays...🤔

I have finished the story over ten times since it came out and the battle system was never flawed in my several experiences with it
