How to get gold in the Intermediate Maths Challenge (UKMT) and qualify for the Kangaroo and Olympiad

How well do you need to do to get a Gold (or Bronze or Silver) certificate in the Intermediate Maths Challenge and qualify for the follow on rounds? Should you guess answers if you don't know them? What are the different follow on rounds for different year groups? Very helpful and informative video! I do feel like the boundaries for this year will be lower than the last 2 years since you now lose marks for getting questions 16-25 wrong, which was not the case with the introduction of the online challenge. Previously, most people likely guessed the answers to the last questions they could not solve and as a result, it increased the average significantly.

I'm taking this tomorrow and I'm in year 8 so fingers crossed. I got best in school and qualification to the kangaroo in the JMC in year 7 so hopefully that will help.

Hi I was wondering if you know whether the 2020 and 2021 imc were online and if they removed marks for getting an answer wrong, I'm trying to figure weather the boundaries would be lower this year and would like to hear your thoughts

Hi, I remember doing the JMC 2 years ago in year 7 (got gold!🥳) and the grade boundaries were high because it was online. Do you think that they will be lowered? Because we are sitting it in school instead of at home this time

I am sitting mine on Wednesday like the rest of the country. If you leave a question blank do you still get the marks taken away for an incorrect answer like you would if you guessed. If you do not then you should guess all?
