Palisades fire: Fast-moving fire prompts evacuations

Fire crews on the scene of that brush fire in Pacific Palisades report the blaze has grown to about 10 acres amid roughly 40 mph winds, and structures are being threatened. Crews are staging at LAFD Station 23 on Sunset Boulevard at Los Liones Drive.

Little piece of advice if you're stuck in smoke and you absolutely need something to filter it out get your mask wet or mildly damp. Like with a spritzer. It'll help a lot more than if it's just dry. But you don't want it to wet so that it smothers you just enough to create a little bit of a water Filtration

Former Angeleno: watched this back from the start in stunned amazement. Rick Caruso said what everyone is thinking: this was a KNOWN catastrophic hazard, one that, other than response to a major earthquake, all resources in LA City and County have had mitigation plans for in place for DECADES: an urban wildfire. They've started before, even more in town i.e. Bel Air for goodness sake, on. equally bad Santa Ana days and been put down. This was a day that every agency should have been on PEAK alert. The first wisp of smoke anywhere in urban SoCal should have been attacked with full force immediately, as a raging out of control situation was inevitable if not. Not only did that obviously not occur, but to see the PALISADES burning down with nary a fight, not even water in the hydrants, is something I never though imaginable. Caruso (have never exactly been a fan either) said it exactly: it looked like a resourceless Third World Country. LAFD and LACoFD were the best in the country, possibly the world. This is a preventable nightmare. And the news coverage pretends this isn't a huge part of the story. The mind boggles. What a horrible, sad day in the history of my hometown. On every level.
