Hi, Barry Goldberg here again. Clients often ask what they should expect when going to court with their lawyer. First, you want to dress appropriately—talk to your lawyer about what’s best, whether you should dress up or keep it more casual. I like my clients to be comfortable and well-prepared for what will happen in court. Depending on whether it’s a hearing or a trial, you might not speak much until you’re called to testify under oath. In the meantime, be attentive and take notes if you need to, but don’t speak out unless you're the witness. Also, avoid showing facial expressions like surprise or frustration, as these can be misinterpreted by the judge or jury. If you get clear guidance from your lawyer, you’ll feel more comfortable in court. It’s really not as scary as it seems, except for when you take the stand. If you have questions about court proceedings, give me a call!
