You completely forget the fact that the person who filmed the red gyrados in Johto showed up in Sinnoh, saying he filmed it. Would that mean HE didnt exist? If he didnt exist, who would stop Lucas in pokemon platinum and diamond and pearl from catching mesprit (or whichever one it was) right away? So if the cameraman didnt exist, neither did Lucas, or the Sinnoh story. But that would also mean that if Lucas didnt exist, who got his pokedex? If he didnt exist, then neither did his pokedex, which means he never got it from the professors, which also means THEY DONT EXIST. If they dont exist, then Hoenn Johto AND Kanto dont exist. In case no one got the message here, I'm just saying this video is meaningless.

This theory takes it too far. The reason bill says "They didn't exist" is because it is a message from the game developers basically saying that gold and silver weren't around when red and blue were made, therefore the new stuff isnt programed in those games, and obviously would corrupt the files. They just did this so kids wouldn't break their games.

BUT PROTO what about Ho-oh?! Didn't Ash see Ho-oh in the 1st episode and Ho-oh is a JOHTO pokemon??!! O_O

Or it's just because the data didn't exist in the first games which is the obvious conclusion. If there's no code for the pokemon it won't be able to exist in said game. We all know it's a game right this isn't about if the pokemon world is real it's that it's physically impossible to download the new data onto an old cartridge.

I like your vids but get annoyed by the "but proto" bits.  Do people really say this stuff?

this "theory" makes no sense. at no point does he prove his premise. waste of time.

My theory: Bill simply hadn't got around to updating his PC yet, and you can't expect a PC to do something it is not programmed to do. Just because the Johto and Kanto regions exist side by side does not mean that there is any reasonable expectation he should have both of them programmed into his PC. When you are making something you've got to start somewhere, and he started developing his PC for the Kanto region alone. Once he got the Kanto region finished he started gathering data on the Pokemon and items in the Johto region so he could add to it, and assuming he works alone 3 years is a reasonable time frame for him to not have gathered all of the data and updated it yet. Especially if the Johto region Pokedex had not been completed yet, he would've had to wait around for some kid to catch them all and allowed some extra time to make sure that even the rare pokemon had been encountered and caught since before the Pokedex there was no way to know for sure if there was only 50 new pokemon in the Johto region or if there were 500. The way he explained it was kind of weird, most likely because the developers had to have some way to introduce the concept to players and they wanted to do it without going out of character and breaking the fourth wall, but ignoring the weird dialogue I think its a pretty simple theory.

This theory...doesn't make sense. Creatures not existing at a certain point in time happens in real life too.

For example, ligers didn't exist until humans bred together lions and tigers. Now, the first liger was bred by Thomas Atkins and born in 1824. So let's say you took a time machine and sent a liger back to *17*24. Suddenly, you have something existing on the timeline BEFORE it was ever CREATED by way of crossbreeding. Now you've gone and created a conflict on the timeline, and made room for the space-time continuum to shit its pants in a big way.

So let's say "new" Pokemon work in a similar way. It's very much possible that if you were to send a Pokemon back in time before that particular species had reached the stage of development at which it currently stands, you could ruin the timeline. Let's pick, say, Flareon. And I'll use Gen 4 - Gen 6 as the example, for the sake of argument. Now, in Gen 6, Flareon can suddenly use Flare Blitz. However, while the move did EXIST in Gen 4 and 5, Flareon couldn't USE it. This is to say that between the time of DPP/HGSS, where some Pokemon first used Flare Blitz, and XY, where the Flareon species first learned to use it, the Flareon species AS A WHOLE "evolved, " developing to the point where they were able to learn that new move, thus becoming stronger as a species.

BUT BROKEN, what does that have to do with sending Pokemon back in time? Well let's say you send a Flareon from Gen 6 who knows Flare Blitz back to Gen 4 or 5 and, even better, let's release the little fireball out into the wilds of Sinnoh. Now, according to the current timeline, Flareon does not learn that move until Gen 6, and is presumably far less strong back in Gen 4 because of it. But here we have this Flareon who DOES know how to use it. And this Flareon, released into the wild, breeds with the other Jolteons and Eevees, and now that DNA that was SUPPOSED to develop YEARS later has gotten a pretty damn significant fast forward, suddenly bumping Flareon WAY up in the food chain. And suddenly, the Pokemon ecosystem has been shifted in a way the timeline does not condone of. Not to mention that the timeline you SENT that Gen 6 Flareon from *no longer exists*. You've changed the timeline by introducing that Flareon to a time it shouldn't have been in. A time during which that particular Flareon "did not exist."

And imagine how absolutely fucked the timeline would be if we sent that Gen 6 Flareon back to Gen 1, where the MOVE ITSELF didn't even exist. Now THERE'S some fun timeline shifting.

So, let's look at the Time Capsule situation again. Bill says not to send back Pokemon, items, or moves which didn't exist yet. Yet. All we know of Gen 2 from the perspective of the player is that these Pokemon, as they currently are, exist now. Nothing is to say that a Chikorita from the time of Gen 2 would be anything like the unseen Chikoritas of Gen 1. In a sense, even if there were Chikoritas in Johto during the time of Gen 1, there's no promising that they were the same as the Chikoritas in Gen 2. Bill saying the Pokemon "didn't exist in the past" doesn't mean the Pokemon never existed at all, and I don't know how you would even end up coming to that conclusion. Honestly, even if NONE of the arguments made in my comment hold up, the point made in this video is pretty damn faulty by itself if you ask me lol

also ho-oh is seen in the Kanto region in the anime

I love how proto says it not like these pokemon never existed when he's trying to prove that they never existed. Choose your words wisely proto.

Through every new generation, they say that they "found a new generation of Pokemon and that the island or land mass just happens to be right next to them." I think that this was Bill's approach, saying that no one "knew" about Johto. Even though it truly did exist, even Profesor Oak says how there is a new region and later states to have known the professor for many years.

Those pokemon never existed.

That's why they're in every single pokedex released after GS

Okay okay I know this theory is old but what if the reason sending Pokemon from the future corrupt the box data is because the box had only been programmed to handle the original 151 Pokemon at the time? Since its established that Pokemon are code in this theory, wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that the box might have to be programmed to recognize each Pokemon? Idk that's just a little something I thought up while watching

you got it all wrong. he said pokemon from the future can't be sent to the past;

The Gold and Silver games are a different timeline since Red is already the champ and in the original games we, the players, were Red. Therefore everything you do in Gold and Silver is the future, if you catch a Pokemon, that very Pokemon didn't exist in that form in the timeline of Blue & Red, but its species did exist.

Dunno if it's been proposed, but what if the trainer can actually see what Missingno looks like? After all, we, the players, can only see the Dex images of pokemon, but the trainers are there in the world. They see the "real thing". As I understand it, missingno isn't as much a "glitch pokemon", as a pokemon unregistered in the Kanto Dex which may or may not be able to actually disturb the technology for some reason. Thoughts?

Is the "But Proto????" thing really necessary for every video?

Like seriously it's so annoying and obnoxious and is always 200x louder than the rest of the video..

Or... OR the game broke the fourth wall.

Y'know, that funny thing taht is sometimes broken to relate matters from us, the player, to the game.  No.. literally, he just broke the fourth wall.  Why did I spend my time on such a bad video XD Aren't theories supposed to be somewhat solid?

This theory takes things too seriously. The reason you couldn't trade Johto Pokémon to Kanto is because they weren't programmed into generation 1.
