Windows 7 Update Error Code 80072EFE in 2021 - FIX Guide

After I get internet working on the Windows 7 with Z590 DARK I encountered the same error with the Update feature what I have seen before many years ago. The Error Code 80072EFE is an error that happens with old Windows 7 installation ISOs, so you can't download and install any updates before the whole Windows 7 Update feature is updated.

The required update is KB3102810 and depending on the version of Windows you are running you need to download and install either the 64-bit version or x86 (32-bit) version of the update.

I did a factory reset on a gateway pc. The “retain user data” option worked but wasn’t crisp. So I did a “wipe the c drive” recovery after backing up data. Couldn’t update nothing. Your video saved me. 167 updates happily installing.

OK gentlemen, I have an Asus Z590 E MB/I9-11900K and would like to use W7U. Luumi had suggested to use an (internal) optical drive to by pass the need for PS/2 KB/Mouse ports. Tried that but it still hangs at the USB/cd/dvd screen. Tried slip streaming drivers with Ntlite, EZInstaller from Asus. There is a Dell page telling how to add the needed drivers but I keep getting errors when I go that route. I going to try the MSI Installer next. Should that not work, does anyone know where in the W7U File directory does these go.
