This song really hits now for me.

All my friend are starting to leave, finding a job, getting their car license, finding their own path in the world.
Meanwhile i'm stuck with all my insecurities and fears

I love that one part where she is going to say "liar, " buy cuts it off at "lie." As a result, it sounds like "he's just a lie-"

my own interpretation of this song is that it’s about 2 siblings who’ve experienced either similar or the same trauma, only difference is that one of them wants to move on from that trauma meanwhile the other can’t let go of it and still feels stuck to it(or the trauma has affected them so much that they don’t feel like it’s worth moving on!). i believe the sibling that wants to/has already moved on from that trauma wants to help the sibling that is stuck and can’t move on, hence the lyric “i won’t let go of your hand”. i also believe that the trauma that they’ve experienced has affected their relationship with one another, “say that they’re always gonna stay together, but ones never going to let go of that wire” i believe that that lyric implies that although the healed sibling wants to move on with their sibling that’s damaged from the trauma, they won’t be able to aslong as the damaged sibling clings onto that trauma like a bird on a wire. “he says that he will but he’s just a liar.” is a lyric that implies that the damaged siblings constantly reassures the healed sibling that everything is alright and they will move on but that’s only cause they don’t want to be worried about. overall it’s a lovely song and every lyric is really good and there are many many ways the song can be interpreted! i am also sorry if my interpretation doesn’t make much sense, im not the best at analysis

My view on this song

Two people, maybe siblings or dating, have experienced similar past traumatic events. One is trying to heal, finding ways to accept and appreciate. Working really hard, letting go of the wire that has the memories, healing and getting stronger. The other is wanting the same thing, but is too tired to let go and work really hard, which is valid. The bird is too tired, it wants to let go of the wire but it’s afraid it will fall and die instead of fly and heal. It’s really cool how a lot of people have different depictions of this song.

A friend had this theory, and I never saw anybody cover it so here it goes; the two birds are actually the same person having an inner struggle, like trying to move on from something but another part of them is hesitating and refusing to let go of that experience...
It's very self reflective if you think of it that way...

This hits hard for me too, like everyone else.
My aunt is in the hospital, and she was always comforting
but now she’s never here. The last thing she said before she
had to get surgery was: “I don’t remember who you are, but I know I love you.”
I haven’t gotten an update if she is okay, she has dementia and the surgery was
to help it. I’m still really nervous, and I hope anyone else who has something
similar to me is okay right now <3
edit: thank you guys for all your love! She is perfectly fine now, her dementia is fading and she is doing better. Also, thanks for all the likes! You are all so sweet and kind!

My interpretation of this song:

“𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀“ it can be two best friends, lovers or even siblings. One of them is sick, and doesn’t tell the other, because he doesn’t wanna hurt him, as the other is trying to get them both to go higher in life, trying his best to get them to reach something, to keep going and let go of the past. The sick one is trying his best, but he can’t, he lies, he lies that he can do it too, even tho he knows he can’t, because in a short while it will be over for him. He’ll be gone. Gone forever. But the other one believes him.

I have so much more to say, but this is the short version of it.

this song reminds me of my and my friend, oliver. in this case, i am the bird on the wire.

oliver had severe depression and self-harm issues, and the only on helping them through it was me. on multiple occasions, it was me and my other friend eve helping them through their depressive episodes. then, one day, they told us that they had developed lung cancer. me and eve were devastated, of course, but we tried to stay positive.

when i told my parents, they told me that they were lying and that they were just doing it for attention.

i didn't believe them.

yet, they still made me block them and remove all contact between oliver and me.

three days later, eve had told me that they had died in their sleep because the cancer had spread through, making the lung shrivel up. they died in their sleep.

they let go of the wire.

The comments:

- The song is about a relationship and the bird on the wire is comfortable as things are and the other one wants to live the life and explore. At the end of the song, the other one goes away.

- Is about a friendship and the bird on the wire wants to keep their friendship but the other one doesn't and says that they'll stay so the one that goes away is the liar because they promised to stay together.

- The opposite of the last interpretation; the bird on the wire said that they'll let go of their relationship (the wire) but he's a liar so the other one goes away but they stay.

- Is about a friendship, one of the birds wants to socialize and the other one is insecure and tries to follow their friend but they're finally left behind.

- The song is from the point of view of a depressed bird and their friend. Their friend is constantly trying to chear them up but the depressed bird is having a pessimistic view of the world and is a liar because they say that they're gonna be okay but at the end of the song he kills himself or tries to follow the other bird and falls because he can not longer fly. (I believe in this one)

- People talking about the last phrase and what they think is the continuation.

- People saying that they are the liar bird.

- People saying that this reminds them of Edd Gould's death.

- People telling their own interpretation of the song.

- People telling their stories and how this song reminds them of it or how it fits with their story.

- People crying because of the song.

- People loving the song.

- That one guy talking about cheese.

- People talking about the comments. ;)

Edit: corrected some grammar mistakes. This comment was three years ago and it was really hard to read due to my broken English at the time, Sorry! If you see any other mistakes, please let me know!

My interpretation of this song:
The two birds represent two people in a relationship. Wheather family, friend, or lover. The wire represents safety or somthing that happend in the past, someone Lost, lies, infidelity, or a miscarriage. The first bird is trying to move on from what happend, telling the other that it will be okay. But the other stays in fear and takes comfort knowing that the first bird will come back, saying that they will be together forever. Then one day the first flies off for the last time. And the other bird waits for them to come back.

It's beautiful that almost anybody can interpret this song in their own way and still find it relatable. It's just... beautiful.

This song hits me so hard, one of my cats is sick rn and he refuses to eat anything, and my other cat tries to "cheer him up" and play with him but he's too "tired"
Update: he died today, but he was strong until the end and I'm relieved that he's not in pain anymore. For the two people in the comments that were going through something similar, I really hope your pets get better, and pls be with them until you can't, they love you and showing that you love them too is never too much <3

This song is great but it always makes me cry. Every single time I at least shed a tear. That proves how powerful this song is.

I asked my friend what they thought about this song. They said "It's about a sad gay relationship, like ours."
I was so confused then they told me they were joking.
After they said that they immediately said "Unless you're into me that is." They winked and left room.
I am satisfied

I'm pretty sure everyone can relate to this song in way. Like I can, I think. But I like this song cause it makes me think about deep things, you know? It's just some thing I'll remember and this song helps me draw.

i love how everyone sees the lyrics so uniquely! so heres my interpretation:
the two birds symbolize two very close people, the one who wants to stay on the wire is suicidal and wants to end it all. the other bird who wants to fly and away and says "come on!" wants to make to most of both of their lives, bc they know it wont last very long. the bird who stays on the wire is simply tired of life, and when watching the other soar and fly with happiness and growth, they stay and watch, smiling at the fact they can be happy and let it all go. they both love each other very much.

xpeachy.
