Why the U.S. is Preparing for an Arctic War

Has the U.S. military forgotten how to fight in the snow? That's what some experts like the RAND corporation are saying and the Pentagon is worried they might be right. This also comes at a time when Great Power competition over the Arctic is heating up in a new polar gold rush.

Is the Arctic truly a new flashpoint for World War 3 as greedy nations compete for new territory? What is the US military doing to prepare for the challenges of cold weather combat after decades in the desert? And will it be ready in time?

I appreciate that the new presenter is being his own person and working his way into the role. Cappy was funny so it would have been weird if they tried to copy him right off the bat. Great Video!

"Presenting a unified front with longtime allies" does not seem to be the policy of the US at this time.

I'll give it a watch, but the presenters have big shoes to fill.

Think about this!! Cappy is going to have his own channel, and task and purpose is still here. Thats two badass channels

Ngl I was immediately salty when I saw you, but I respect that you’re responding to comments and going to keep the channel going. I’ll stick around and check out the new era.

As a former T&P team member I wish them continued success. That being said, it’s important to point out to the viewers that the new host was not in fact “THE producer behind Task and Purpose for years”. That statement is completely false and is offensive to the team of talented producers that worked extremely hard every week to pump out two well written and produced episodes. It’s important to give credit where credit is due, and it’s equally important to not falsely take credit for other’s hard work.

Chris will be missed, but I don't think that is an excuse not to check out the new content. I'll be following both channels closely.

They should ask loggers and truck drivers how they managed to work in sub arctic conditions for over a century. Their equipment and tools need to work in these conditions. A simple set of track grousers and tire chains prevents sliding on ice. Number 1 diesel/additives and fuel heaters prevents diesel from jelling up. For some reason the military forgot all these methods?

Hey there! Vet who served at Wainwright, from my perspective the main issue the army has is equipment not being designed for the environment. Particulalrly logistic vehicles are prone to breakdowns, battery issues, and freezing. Especially if there is no shelter for the vehicles to stay in overnight, they often have to be brought back to life by mechanics in the morning, which can be a time consuming task.

Additionally the units up there are underfunded, a lot of the vehicles in my unit had no heat or inadaquet heat for day to day work (bad weeks can dip into the -20s/-30s ambient everyday, if not colder) but especially for field exercises. If the pentagon is so concerned more funding and man power need to be allocated to Wainwright/JBER

Hopeful for the new voices on task and purpose, appreciate the video as this one hit a bit home for my service, seeing video of Ladd airfield on this channel felt good

“United front with long term allies.”

Mmm… That might not be the policy this month.

Wait till you experience the arctic in the summer, nothing but bogs and enough bugs to suck a moose dry of blood. There's a reason few people really live up there.

Cappy can’t replaced, but this is a great new format. The style and editing here is actually VERY well done! Great editing, pacing, footage, etc.

Having now subscribed to both is giving me more variety of quality journalism. I hope both channels continues to succeed massively.

Also, I hope the unblinking IG host gets to do long form videos as well. He’s amazing too.

I wish you success being the new presenter & I know this is your first video, but don't be afraid to let your personality show. Strictly relaying facts will attract some, but fail to generate a connection with a wider audience.

I was in the 10th Mountain in the 90s. Doing live fire exercises in the winter while wearing snow shoes was a unique training experience. Horrible conditions if we ever have to fight in these environments.
