Hysteroscopy has a very important role to play in the case of infertility. There may be a simple obstruction there like a fibroid polyp or cervical polyp which may have gone undiagnosed on a scan, it may be picked up. Second there may be a fibroid polyp or myoma itself. So you wouldn’t want a big major surgery for that. Hysteroscopically itself it may be removed sometimes if it is ideal in size and situation and there may be a septum which is an anomaly in the uterus where the uterus has an abnormal shape from within and it has to be cleared out. So the septum resection can be done to prevent poor implantation as well as to prevent miscarriages. Lastly in case everything is going fine, you still would want a good conception following an IVF procedure. So prior to undergoing an IVF procedure, a hysteroscopy is advised to look into the cavity and have a look at thee endometrium and not miss out on any of these abnormalities within the uterus.
