Wendy from The Broken Needle quilt shop will show you how to sew a quick and simple microwave potato bag in this easy tutorial. You don't even need a pattern. This is a great project for beginner sewers. This pouch can be used in the microwave to cook potatoes, corn on the cob, to heat up dinner rolls, and more. MAKE SURE to use 100% COTTON in all materials, thread, fabric, and batting.

Here are instructions for heating up things in the microwave potato bag:
DO NOT USE "POTATO, VEGETABLE, OR OTHER PRE-SET CYCLES
1- Wash and dry vegetables - do NOT poke holes in them
2- You can wrap vegetables in "damp" paper towels to keep the pouch clean.
3- Place items inside the Microwave Bag, select cooking time & start
Approximate times, assuming microwave is set to HIGH:
Dinner Rolls/Biscuits: 15 seconds
3 Medium Bred Rolls: 20 seconds
Tortillas: 1 - 2 minutes
Winter squash: 4 - 5 minutes
2 Large Corn Cobs: *6 minutes
2 Large Red/Russet Potatoes: *8 minutes
2 Medium Sweet Potatoes: *10 minutes
* Cook in 1-2 minute increments until item is done - do NOT cook more than 4 minutes at a time.
(contents may be hot, handle with care and air dry after each use.
Microwave Potato Bag is machine washable - do NOT use fabric softeners

It's the second year of coming back to this video for a reminder on how this is done. I make these in bulk for the craft shows. I noticed a small tool you used to push and pull through the dog feed. I started using the walking foot for the last step and it worked like a charm!

Again thank you for the straightforward tutorial. I made one full set with plate cozies, and now I'm on my second set as a gift to a friend!

Thanks for the video, as I am very dyslectic and I have a hard time understanding written instructions. You didn't indicate whether you use 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch seam in making the bag or does it really matter.

What batting did you use? Your's is so thin, compared to the Wrap and Zap, if you soak and dry it like recommended on the package. Sewing the flaps one over the other makes it very bulky, but your's didn't appear that way. I've made two tonight myself.

Do you recommend reinforcing the stitching at the opening of the bag? Would an all-cotton flannel work instead of Wrap and Zap because it is so bulky to sew once it is folded over. I'd also recommend using a non-directional fabric.

What's the overall size of the 3 pieces of fabric?

Do you need to wash the wrap and zap before used as directed on the bag??
