Ohio police officer Miranda Brothers is suing the county and sheriff where she lives claiming she was prosecuted for a crime where there was no evidence. Brothers' suit also claims a member of the Portage County Sheriff's Office found private photos on her phone and shared them with others. The misdemeanor child endangering charge filed against Brothers was eventually dismissed. Law&Crime's Angenette Levy looks at the lawsuit and body camera video of a stop involving Brothers and detectives in this episode of Crime Fix — a daily show covering the biggest stories in crime.

If a cop says cooperating with them is "not going to hurt" you, rest assured, it WILL hurt you.

$500, 000 is not enough. This poor lady is going to be the laughing stock for the rest of her career. You know damn well that someone kept copies of her and the other “police officer” and their private photos. Makes me wonder if the other LEO is the police chief? The other LEO should have his own law suit!

I'm so confused as to why the detective who illegally downloaded very private photos of a woman (a coworker at that) from an already very sketchy investigation, and then SHARED them around at work is being named John Doe??? They were so comfortable ruining this woman's life with zero evidence but are protecting an officer who did something so illegal, violating, and disgusting like that? And he is still a detective at that?? Just horrible. But it really does describe the America justice system perfectly.

The sheriff has already won no matter the outcome of this lawsuit. He got to make sure this woman suffers and Qualified Immunity protects him. No justice will be served.

I live in this area. Both Portage County and Geauga counties have horrific reputations. Hope she gets justice.

As a DA I would charge everyone involved with official misconduct, endangerment of a child and kidnapping. They would be prison for decades.

Not sure how a cop gets away with stealing intimate photos and spreading them around doesn’t constitute a MAJOR FEDERAL CRIME!!!

I’m not sure why they had a problem with her leaving her kids with the RSO to begin with either. That’s another debate.

But if she determines that they’re safe who is anyone to decide they know better? Is it because of what they read ie second hand knowledge or hearsay? The man is a restaurant owner for crying out loud!!! If he was that damn dangerous why is he on the streets? I know but I can’t tell sheeple.

I hope she owns those cops and the sheriff literally.

I’m also not sure how she would trust any cop even her coworkers or the cops! Never trust them!

I hope she sues the police department and everyone personally involved in this.

A $500k settlement is way too low for this level of abuse

Absolutely criminal. The thing is, even if she gets $10 million from the county, the sheriff himself doesn’t suffer. She should get to sue him personally as well as lock him in cell for corruption. There should be severe penalties for disseminating personal information from a confiscated phone.

I hope that not only she gets a huge amount of money, but also that someone is prosecuted or at the minimum loses their job.
