I think sometimes you really DO need to take an extended break from your game.

I worked on my project unwaveringly, for 2 years before I finally hit a wall. I was completely burned out and no matter what I told myself, or what self-motivation technique I tried, I just couldn't force myself to get back in to it. Every little task seemed like some great ordeal. It's a really weird feeling to go from being completely obsessed and consumed with a project for 2 years, to not wanting to think about it at all, seemingly overnight. But that's what it felt like. And I've heard other developers talk about this phenomenon before as well.

I ended up taking a 3-4 week hiatus from my game, during which time, I thought about the project almost not at all. After about a month of not thinking about the game something magical My motivation returned, seemingly overnight, in the same manner that it had disappeared. Now, of course, if you are only a couple weeks into development and you find yourself tempted to take a break, it's probably for the best to ignore those feelings and push through. You aren't going to be able to achieve much if you're taking a week off every month. But if you've honestly been focusing on your game/project for a long time and you've suddenly gotten to a point where it feels like you've run smack into a wall, then it's important to be able to trust yourself to let off for a bit and then pick up where you left off once you've recharged.

Sorry, for the extremely long comment but it is very important to remember that burnout happens to the best of us. And if you think about it logically, sometimes your willpower will simply become depleted. It doesn't make sense to try to force yourself to regain your willpower (as that would require willpower in the first place, think about it.) End rant. :)

I've watched a lot of "tips for getting started videos" and this is by far the best. I'm going to get back to "going big" and ignoring my kids.

You forgot, step 1 is to make your own game engine first. Better start doing that first before you know what kind of game you want to make because designing a game is a waste of time, the vision will come later I'm sure. It also helps to get funding at the same time and put yourself on an extremely tight deadline and promise the game will be finished within the next year or two years. That will really help you get into game dev. Those people who start small and recommend building up experience have no idea what they are talking about. Also better get the website up before you even have the engine or game figured out. Everyone needs a fancy website! Make sure it has the right font!

Everyone knows without the proper font and game engine your game will fail, so better perfect that before you start your game building. Oh while we are at it, why not start up an LLC? No carts before the horses here, we know how this gets done.

I got fired for making my own games in 2011 (conflict of interest employed)... so I said fuck em and took one mechanic I liked from their horrible game website and turned it into 125, 000 usd on my first iPhone game

I didn't watch the video, nor do I care about anything you have to say, but I am sure you are 76.333 correct. Great video on indie cheese making.

OMG!!! ANOTHER!!!! Video about getting STARTED in the indie dev life!!! because THATS!!!! what youtube needs right now.. Let me just find my section on useless overdone videos... ah!! here it is... between makeup tips for penguins and how to convince your grandmother that she is an alien and money no longer has any value, so ultimately should all be given to you.. and at least that last one has REAL WORLD ACTIONABLE CONTENT!!! and now im going to watch the video.
edit: I could easily delete this comment before anyone sees it and thus have myself NOT look like a fucking idiot.. but i found the video actually THAT FUNNY!!! I feel i owe some penance to it... this message IS my penance!!! Incredibly funny.. and that brush guy.. guy brushwood? threep gushwood? whatever.. he fucks me off also.!! How dare he look like that and make video games.. its cultural appropriation if ever i seeened it.. Its neither hip not clever to impersonate a basement dwelling trogladyte .. we are a proud race of pale ugly people..

I'm trying to make a game while looking at tutorials am I doing something wrong?

BTW keep posting don't look at the hate comments and don't look at the views you got the skills for this and trying something with it.

Ps
Do you plan to make tutorials for simple 2d platformers games XD need a good channel that don't use all the time the update function to let a player move XD have a nice day you got a sub.

This was great

Question how do you know if something is big when you have never made anything before? Like I think for someone who has never made a game wouldn’t breakout or Tetris be big? I know that’s not the case but realistically how does someone with no to little exp determine what’s big
