Sorry I have not been posting. These floors have been beating me up for the past few weeks. I also turned 30 a couple of days ago so I also had a midlife crisis. 😂 Thanks for watching!

The first comment I ever made to a video of yours was, "What impresses me more than you carpentry skills is your moral and work ethics." (probably not the exact words used but the meaning is the same).
This video exemplifies that perfectly. Most people will post only videos of their successes or, at the very least, edit out the mistakes. You come right out and admit to "messing up" not only once but twice. This is a rare and seldom seen attribute in younger people these days.
Then you go on and give the best advice....That when trying something new, there will be mistakes made because it's "a learning process". To just keep at it and you will get better." Well, my respect for you as a Craftsman and as a Person has just gone off the

On a side note: Happy belated Birthday. Hate to tell you though - if you feel "old" at 30 wait until your my age (I'll be 69 in 2 months) and it's not gonna get better!!! ROFL

LOL "the wife wanted light stain and I wanted dark. So we met in the middle and decided on light..."

Man, great job! And thank you for being honest about your mistakes. It made me feel a whole lot better seeing that even excellent professionals like you have to rework not once, but even twice or more when they are doing something they've never done before. I'm doing our home renovation myself and it's really tough sometimes.

I started watching youtube vids about 4 years ago after my wife passed. I've been watching how to/learning vids at least a couple hours every day since. You went to my top 10 favs pretty quick, you are informative, entertaining, speak from your heart and just fun to watch. Thanks and God Bless. Gary

Richard - Ignorance is sometimes expensive. Stupidity is always expensive. No one who has watched your channel for any length of time could ever call you stupid. You just didn't know the products and complications involved. Now you do. Education is expensive too. It's called Life. Great video. Don't let age get to you. I've been at it 75 years, and I'm still going, and loving it. Watching you is a part of my enjoyment. Keep showing your talent.

Hardwood flooring, installation, sanding, staining, and finishing is a lifelong career. You have to grow up in this business. Some flooring contractors will not touch a floor that has had wax applied. They say that when they sand with 60 grit to remove the wax and stain it pushes the wax into the wood to the depth of the first sanding. As they move on to the higher grit sanding it smears the wax and the stains never penetrate consistently. Initially the job will look good but the finish will start to flake off within a year, ....temperature changes, humidity, cold, hot. Hope yours will hold up. You put a lot of effort into it. Life is not a crisis. You have gather a good amount of knowledge and experience in a short time and shared it with all us you tubers. I and probably many others enjoy and learn from your videos. I’m 63 and still learning even from young people like you. Keep those videos coming.

Richard the floors turned out beautiful thanks for being open enough to let us know that this wasn’t perfect from the beginning I appreciate that you’re willing to share that. I’m sure in the end you’ll see that all that extra effort was worth it. Considering this is all being done in your free time I think you’re doing terrifically and I look forward to the continuing progress.

Hi, Richard - thanks for another amazing, honest and instructive video. Regarding the palm tree that another viewer commented on... it's a washingtonia robusta, commonly referred to, as you said in the video, a Mexican fan palm. I have eight [!] of them in my tiny front yard and median, and they do look great and provide a lot of shade. The trunk will get much, much larger as it grows. The oldest [it was already 14 feet tall when I bought the house in '96] is now three feet across at the base. None of mine are close to the house, although I should note that another one with a [currently] 32" base is pressing right up against flagstone lining either side of the driveway, and there is ZERO sign of it buckling or lifting the surrounding stones or concrete.

Having said that, I really would err on the safe side and move yours just a little bit farther from your house - a couple of feet would do it. When it starts dropping its inflorescence [the reproductive branches near the crown], they will come crashing down into the surrounding garden, so moving it over a bit might preserve some of the plants in your garden if nothing else! Cheers!
